Default Tech question

I am needing a new flywheel for my '64 C normal. I am looking at several different sources, but I need to know if I need a 180mm or 200mm flywheel. Ebay has some good deals from what I can tell, but I want to make sure I am getting the correct size. Thanks for any help!!!

Hi
This is the [part number] and the diameter from the Stoddards catalogue - check it out via the 356 Registry site. Stoddard is under the link to vendors. There are others.

Item06 [616-102-201-03] Flywheel, 200mm. Fits 356C, SC $552.00

The new flywheel should be balanced with the crankshaft.

Just a thought. If you are not already a member you should join the 356 Registry and subscribe to 356 Talk where the real old-time gurus are always happy to help with just about everything. I don't know how any 356 owner can function without access to the great resources provided by that organisation.

200mm for the C, Super 90 and 912...180mm for the 356, A and B (except S90)...

Be very careful on ebay. There is one seller, I think it is Sears Point Classics, that is a guy with a long and highly dubious history selling Porsche parts; there was a lot of discussion and some bad stories about him on the 356 Registry Talk List recently, and I recall some war stories on RL in the past (he has used various names to sell). I would stick to the reputable sellers like NLA (http://www.nlaparts.com/store/), Stoddard, and Zims. Brad Ripley at NLA can also give you lots of good advice; great vendor - I buy most of my stuff from him. Better to pay a few extra bucks and get good and correct stuff, rather than saving a few bucks and finding you got a less than perfect part!

Further to my above post, here's something someone posted on the 356 Talk List today: "If your making up a list of Ebay vendors to avoid, don't forget "searspointclassics" which is likely part of, or the same as "fastclassics" . I bought a 200mm Sachs clutch disc on Ebay which was advertised for a 356 and measured 10mm thick. What I received was 8.6mm thick. When I contacted the seller and subsequently returned the disc, I never got the promised correct disc. He just kept my money and the disc! I even had a scan of his signature that he received it (USPS). It just doesn't matter....these guys are just bad news and need to be totally avoided!! Just pay the money and get parts from vendors that can be trusted."
