356 in a barn
About three years ago I was filling up my '64 coupe and a guy on the next pump came up and said that his uncle had a car "just like mine." I was a bit surprised mainly because I live in the middle of nowhere in California. I never followed up on his conversation because I really did not want another 356 "just like mine." As the years went by I wondered just where this other coupe was. I finally hunted it down and found out that it was pretty much completely disassembled B or C coupe and under a car cover in this guy's back garage/barn. I only looked at the empty engine compartment and the engine cover.
What's the problem? If a person was to restore the car, a pretty much straight, run-of-the-mill B/C coupe (sorry, it is not a Carerra or you would not be reading this) that is in this shape, it would be a financial wash or worse. I think it is pretty much rust free, but needs everything. I think the guy still has it. And I don't know if he even wants to sell it.
Anyone seriously interested in taking this one on? I think it would have to be to save a 356 from being lost. I've got two other restorations in front of me and can't get into this one. I'll help you get with the owner, but after that you would be on your own.
