Default 356 cab question

I posted a question a few weeks ago, but found out I had some of the info wrong, unknowlingly. My father-in-law bought a 53 cab (1500) back in 1956 from the first owner. He said the car was different in a few ways... it had a padded top, so padded that when the top was down, it looked kind of like the VW tops, in that it stuck up and out form the body. It also had reclining seats. Would this have been a Continental model?

The 356 Cab's top is padded & always sits high-up when stowed, similar to the beetles. Speedsters and Roadsters sit flatter. Reclining seats were available, even in '53. & no, the Continental designation was used in '55 only, at the advice of Max Hoffman (US Importer), believing that the US market responded to descriptive names rather than obscure design numbers. Ford forced them to drop it. Years ago at a wrecking yard, I saw a 356 w/ the Continental script piled atop 2 other cars & wondered if I should save it - those were the days...
