Default Big Boo Boo

A friend of mine in Germany has sent me some photos of his father's 356. Unfortunately his mother and father were driving the car this past weekend and were involved in a collision with a drunk driver. They are in the hospital I am not sure of their condition right now. The car didnt fair too well.

Please keep these folks in your prayers.

Here are the pics...

Default update

I spoke with a good friend of the family this weekend and apparantly they occupants of the car are doing fine. Some fairly heavy damage to their knees but still well among the living. This is very good news indeed.

The Carrera though...what a shame.

In addition to the window cranks, the metal dashboards, especially the lower section by the radio on the C Cars are not knee friendly. My wife and I were rear ended and smashed into the car in front of us in my old C s/r coupe and she took a good whack to her left knee. You could see on the dash where her knee hit as the paint was chipped off.

We were both strapped in, I had retrofitted shoulder belts into that car which kept me from losing any teeth on the steering wheel, but your body still gets tossed around during any collision.

After sitting under a tarp for many years, my car was eventually pulled back straight, re-restored and is now being enjoyed by its new owner. I'm sure the C2 will get fixed. It would be a shame though if it was an original paint, unrestored car.

It's good to know passenger's are recovering...you can always get things...life and health you don't! Unfortunately it's goind to be quite hard to make this car's chassis straight again...not many restoration facilities in the world with the appropriate jig to fix the frame correctly...hopefully it will be back to the road...the 356 Carrera 2 is definitely my ultimate dream car...great color combo as well...

I think they will be fine. The Carrera however, who knows. Its a pretty serious hit as you can see. They are serious collectors and restorers though so if anyone can put it back proper it would be them. I dont think there is a chance of a yard sale at their place (picture finding that 4 cam next to an old lawnmower and some golf clubs...).

I will try to follow up on the condition of the car and the inhabitants as time goes on.

And maybe I'll wear knee pads when I drive my 356 from now on...

Just ask the Porsche gods for protection...they really listen to the faithful...especially 356 owners!
