Default Highest Price for a 356, I think

At the Amelia Island Concours last Sunday, a fellow came up and introduced himself and told me that he had recently bought my ex-1964 356C Carrera 2 Cabriolet. Great car, one of 28 made...it won Best in Class:Sportscars (1960-1970) at Meadowbrook Hall in 2001 and Best in Class: Sportscars (1960-1972) at Amelia Island in 2002, among many other national awards.
Car is in white/green/green livery.
I sold it in 2005 for $275,000. It has passed through two other hands since. The current owner paid (he told me) $375,000.
I believe him.

Did you have a car entered this year Ray? I made it for the last couple of hours on Sunday. There were some great looking 356s on the lawn.

Yes I did. One of them was mine, I think.
I took my '62 Twin Grille Roadster, which won the Porsche Parade (in Portland) Grand Prize for Restoration and The Gmund Level of Achievement Award (298.6 points out of 300) in August, 2006. Champagne yellow/ green leather/ black top, Rudge wheels, wooden VDM steering wheel.

We were fortunate to win Best in Class, Sportscars (1957-1962). A Gary Kempton-restored '62 Carrera 2 Coupe, very nice car, won the Amelia Award (2nd Place) for the same class, so 356's did quite well in the class.

Thanks for asking!

Freddy,
Thanks so much for posting these pictures. The yellow one is my Twin Grille Roadster that won last Sunday, and the light ivory/green/green Carrera 2 Cabriolet won at Amelia Island in 2002. I believe they are the only Porsches that have ever won best sportscar at Amelia Island, so I feel both fortunate (how could one not given the competition) and proud (because, well, they are pretty nice cars).
Thanks again,
Ray

Wow
I could never spend $375,000 on any car (or afford it, but that's another story) but wow... Beautiful!

I was told last week that someone from Europe just bought a 356B Carrera 2 Coupe driver for 210,000 Euros (around $275,000), and it still must be restored. The dollar is cheap against the euro, but still! Additionally, I was told that European Collectables has a C2 Coupe for $275,000, but who knows whether or not it is a national concours standard restoration or one with lots of handy replacement parts. I don't know, anyway.

On the Speedster front, an enthusiast in New Jersey sold his Speedster to a Microsoft executive for $180,000,. NIce car, but the restoration was at least a decade old and it wasn't perfect. Two friends of mine were responsible for brokering the car and finding it, so I know it's true.

Bottom line is, values are going up, so take care of your car. And if you don't have one, too bad you didn't buy one several years ago when you had the chance!

As long as taking care of it includes driving her 3k/yr - I'm doing it.

Was it a white speedster? If so, I would like to know what made that speedster so special. I saw that car when it was first delivered to our area and it looked like a regular level restoration, nice, but not done to a national level like your T6 Roadster.

If we are talking about the same guy, I remember when he bought a C Cab for what I thought was over priced by about 30% a few years ago. Of course with the way the 356 values have been going since then, he didn't overpay, he just bought early, which could be the case with this Speedster.

Don't know if we are talking about the same cars, though, as there are a lot of white Speedsters out there.

Isn't John Paterek's Ex America Roadster currently on the market?
I heard the price dropped from 1.4 to 1.1 Million.
I know it's rare and perfect but WOW
