Looking for a speedster

Looking for a speedster
I have convinced the wife that it is time to acquire a nice speedster.
I will be looking at selling my 65 356SC after I acquire any year speedster.
If you guys and gals know of any speedsters for sale. Looking for clean driver to a real nice driver. Ideal speedster would be slate grey with red leather. Silver with red will also be acceptable. The only places that I see speedsters for sale are either on ebay (which I am very hesitant to purchase) and European Collectible in Costa Mesa, which seems to have a wide selection, but for the money I want to hold out for the right car. I know the really nice ones never reach ebay or the flippers, and that is what I am looking for, yet I am not heavily involved in the Porsche community and thus do not know the right people that have the inside track on current owners wishing to sell.
Please send any references my way. I would really appreciate.
I am NOT looking for that 100 point concourse car, as I do want to drive it as often as I can.
Please send pm if you wish.

The speedsters keep appreaciating in value. As a result, many people don't actually drive these cars. It's nice to see that you are looking for one that you can actually use.
Check www.356.org. This website frequently has speedsters for sale.
I too would like to find a speedster that is in need of work or has an unoriginal engine, so that I could acquire the car at a "reasonable" price and invest in it as I could. But I have not been able to find one. It does seem to becomming increasingly more difficult to find these though.
GOOD LUCK in your indevors.

I'm not sure I would even call it a driver - it was either a museum piece or a resto candidate. I saw the car in a grocery store parking lot 3 years ago, nice old guy, but had no interest in selling.

Hope you have lots of coin for your quest! I bet this one will go for a princely sum by the end of this auction!

I've had a speedster for 35 years
Sunday driver and car shows .. gets more attention than anything...but your right it's not about the current value of it but it's just that it's not much of a real car..at this point..just bought a 98 993 cab for a summer car. i think more 356 people will realize this is one way to go if you want to drive " real" porsche on a regular basis .. the speedsters at barrett jackson were nice.. i think a beater speedster would go for 40k and a non concours restoration would be 80k .. so i don't 100-120k is as crazy as it sounds.good luck...

Hmmmm...
No disrespect intended here, folks .... but, in the 2 -3 years I've been looking for a 356 car (Speedster, or coupe), the costs have not been what I wanna spend. Perhaps I'm price sensitive.
Therefore ... I suggest looking into a good, direct build replica Speedster. The cost of the 'real deal' is just beyond normal folk's pocketbooks. Mine included. But, you can build a replica Speedster for 25 -40k USDs. And, it can have many new components that make it a ... well, differently better car than the 50 year old 356 Speedy.
There are some nice 'real' coupes out there. I've seen some that went for 30 -40K (USDs) on eBay and such. But, that's still a bunch of coin for an old car. And, most are not drivers without some work. Even tho they have great paint.
Personally, I like coupes the best ... but, there the allure of a 'topless car' is pretty charming, too. But, the 'real deal' is gonna be pricey.
I would love an original driver Speedy or coupe. But, I'm not certain that will happen.
As an aside, you say that you convinced "the wife" ... well, that's pretty chauvinistic, eh. The wife? Interesting way to speak of one's wife. Nameless. "The Wife"? What does she call you? The hubby?
Cheers anyway, bro.
