Default Please help ID this car...

It's my dearly departed dad and his car before I was born.

I'm on my second Pcar (987S SG/BK/BK) and would love to know which model this 356 is. Notice the side rear view mirror is on the fender.

Please help me with what year and model the car might be. I have another photo and the car is Pastel Yellow.

If you can provide the VIN # we can determine exactly what type it is. It may be traceable via the 356 Registry. Photos of passenger side, rear & interior would tell us more. Mirror location not significant. Condor Yellow was a '60-61 color.

It is not a Speedster, but appears to be a 356B T5 (early "B") Roadster, probably a '60 (maybe early '61), probably w/ chassis from Drauz (maybe D'Ieteren). Engine would be a 1600 N or S (maybe S90).

You look more like your Dad than the Boxster resembles the 356! Welcome aboard & Cheers!

i second the b roadster thought. its the way the front fenders sit a bit more 'square' and the front fenders that makes me think this.

Wouldn't it be cool if you can find your Dad's VIN number somewhere and then actually locate the car?

As the guys have said, It's not a Speedster that's for sure. Wrong windshield........

Any more pics??

JoAnne

PS: Love the Boxster in Seal Grey.. You aren't bad looking either

Definately a 60-61 Roadster Super 90. (T-5 early body).

definitely a S90 motor, Carquip? evidence being the hubcaps?
minor point, perhaps, but my experience w/ 356s has taught me to be very careful making definitive statements about engine type(s), displacement, carbs, cams & etc. - absent staring at it w/ ones own eyes (... & even then...). cheers!

I agree with the T5 Roadster ID (windshield is one dead giveaway), but I don't think it is possible to know anything about the engine package from this picture (only hints of a super 90 would be the script on the rear deck and the transverse rear stabilizer).

Those hubcaps are different from mine, which may mean it is a '61 (mine is a '60), or it may mean that is what they had lying around so they built it that way. Anyone know when those hubcaps first appeared?

Jay, the "nippled" hubcaps were for 15" wheels. I believe they were standard on T2 (late) As & Bs having the 1600S or S90 engine. They were optional on all other models. Of course, they were dropped w/ the disc brake cars (C), since the wheels are completely different.

I like 'em. While my '59 came w/ a N, it now has a S, so I've thought of putting them on. However, no hubcaps at all IS cheaper...

Further photo interpretation: msh's Dad's Roadster has its aerial on the right side - factory-installed radios almost always had their aerials placed on the left fender. The Talbot (bullet style) mirror was not a standard factory part, & the factory placed mirrors (usually, but not exclusively) on the door rather than the fender. So, one might surmise that the selling dealer installed the radio, mirror & even the "upgraded" hubcaps. The factory Kardex would reveal much, but not all. The mystery of the history of these 40-55 yr old Porsches is part of the attraction.
