FIVE Speedsters for sale!!!!!
Just talked to a friend that lives in Monterey Ca and she told me that her car (63 B coupe) was going to be in the Bonham Auction this Friday. This weekend is the Monterey Historics, Pebble Beach, Italiano Concours and several auctions. Anyway at the Bonham Auction, there will be 5 Speedsters for sale.........NOT just any Speedsters........But the PROTOTYPE and the FIRST 4 SPEEDSTERS PRODUCED! All five in a package deal!!!! Not sold seperately. All 5 together! Pretty mind-boggling.
Oh yeah, The reserve.........5 Million Bucks!
I can think of one guy that might be interested?!?!

Production #4..........$200,000.00
Production #6..........$200,000.00
$200K for each of the first Carrera Speedsters,... seems unrealistic for those specials 4-cams...
Are you sure about these figures Robert?

No, I am not "sure" about the prices. The figures were reported on 356talk and PPBB by someone that was at the auction. There is no official posting on Bonhams website as of yet that I have found. Not like Barrett-Jackson that has instant sales figures of their auctions. I think the 5 million reserve was, in a way, set to grab some pre-auction attention. There really is no way to put a value on such significant cars as these, except what someone is actually willing to pay for them. About two months ago a Carrera GT Speedster sold for 330K, so it's hard to imagine that the very first 4 cam Speedster only went for 200K.
Hopefully we will know some official numbers soon.

Race Car
Hello,
There was an article on the restoration of 80005 in the December 1988 issue of Excellence magazine. Harvey Smith has restored this car and the article is interesting with a lot of explanation on the differences between those pre-production cars and the regular Speedsters.
Regards,
Samuel

Steve Heinrichs spent about 20 years searching and finding AND then purchasing these original Speedsters. He was the organizer of the 50th Anniversay of the Speedster held in Monterey Ca last year.
