Default Wanted: Speedster Shell

I recently acquired a 1600 engine out of a 356 however I do not have a car to put it in. Considering putting it in a speedster shell. I was just curious to know, do any 55-57 speedster shells still exist. Let me know.
--Thanks
Alex

Hi Alex...due to their raising value and all this promotion from the 50th anniversary, you'll have to pay premium price even for a rolling chassis...hard to find Speedsters in a barn nowadays...too much information around! : )
Regards...

Pedro is right.
About 6 months or so back a really rough Speedster without motor/trans or interior sold for close to 50K!!!!
I keep thinking....Gotta buy one now, before a decent one is 150!?!? CRAZY!!!

but ifthat happens which is the odd porsche out? you cant sell Helga.. shes too nice, and i know you wouldnt sell max.. so it would be the 993 right? (or will Joanne kill you for sellin Sascha?)

personally i think you shoudl sell the 993 and get 2 912s.. (9+(9+3)=912 after all )

Sold it last week. Picking it up this afternoon. JoAnne hardly ever drove it, last time she did, she got run off the road by a truck. She wants a bigger car (non Porsche). Did we ever tell you that Hot Springs has the worlds WORST drivers? SERIOUSLY.
As for selling Helga and/or Max......Anything and everything has it's price! Helga would go before Max though.
Did you see the Speedster John Wilhoit built in the latest issue of Excellence? That could replace H & M anyday!

twin plug.. oh yeah! i saw that. if you want, i know a great builder who does great rebuilds (i believe he learned from duane spencer). needless to say he builds hopped up 912 motors, always uses the best parts and machine shops available (usually competition engineering.. buit i think sometimes he might go to ollies.. not 100% sure). his belief is that many of these guys build stock.. where as you can builder better and faster engines with as much money (ie instead of using mahle p&c for 2000, buy arias racing pistons for same cost.. and instead of spending 300 on a normal cam, you can buy a hotter cam for same cost.. machining needs to be 100% balanced either way so you are in same ball park there.. if you need a new crank buy a scatt as they are bullet proof... and for 500 more buy the ultralight scatt... you get the idea and thats a single plug). twin plug just add a bit for extra machining for other plugs. (one example is he just got finished building a 150 hp street motor for a customer.. single plug stock design.. performance goodies indside.. a 50 hour motor!) his twin plug he just made is mild inside.. not alot of hp goodies.. but hes expecting about 125-130 i heard just from twin plugging alone.. if thats the case, getting one more powerrful than the one in excellence shouldnt be too hard.

this is the guy who developed the 0012 distributor for the 912 & 356 (recurved an 009 to be correct for our motors.. and a much better option than the 050.. especially since the 050 is no longer made!.). ... he knows his stuff.

he also built that twin plug i posted about. (check out the posts tin these two threads for details)

so if you want a bitchin twin plug...... well wilhoit isnt the only guy in town.
