Default '63 356B questions...

A friend of mine has found a '63 356B 1600S for $9500 that needs some minor interior work. The car has no rust. He asked my thoughts on it, but me being a 911 guy, I knew nothing about this car....

any thoughts would be appriciated if this is a good price, or should he run...

I've had my 63 for 13 years now. I paid 7 needing some work. And 12k later it still needs some body work and another paint job. But it is a daily driver. 9k doesn't sound bad.

I think you posted that question elsewhere and I might already have answered..Anyway....

IF the car is sound (no rust, great, how about bondo, nose clip, bent front axle, bad gaps on hood or doors....) and it's a running car, it's a great price. IF it turns out to need an engine rebuild soon, a tranny freshening and a paint job, all of a sudden you are spending $12000+ to make it right.

Interior stuff, however minor, is not cheap either nor always easy to find. But as a "driver" in fair condition this is a decent price, yes !

Or you could pay $15 to 20K and get one that needs nothing.

Hi Jason...knowing the market a little bit, I'd say this car probably needs more than minor interior work...If I'm your friend, I'd put this car on a hoist and have the undercarriage fully checked for rust and patches...if it has a solid undercarriage, go for it...excellent price!
Regards...
