I used to be an aircraft mechanic, the way those EGT probes worked was REALLY simple. The probe had a bit of a shoulder on it that would set the depth into the pipe. Then there was a stainless hose clamp that had a hole in it that was smaller than the shoulder that went on top to sandwhich the shoulder into the pipe. Tighten down the hose clamp and that was it - FAA approved it, so it must be good........

Ok cool.
Yea, I have seen the clamp stlye but wasn't sure if that was just as good as weld and or as tight of a seal.
I was thinking about using a band clamp for mine instead of having to wait for my buddy to ever tack it on for me

I drilled and tapped mine. If you do this you have to be very careful as the wall thickness is not as big as recommended for the Zeitronix thread size. It does work if you tap to the correct place and torque it carefully.
Having the egt probe not thread in in some way is a bad idea on a turbocharged engine, there is 40 plus psi in there under boost and most cars have enough exhaust leaks as is.

drilled and tapped???? LOL
everybody does it a little different...... if you were in my part of country I would happily weld in for you at no charge.... just to keep you from doing it that way.

Yeah, I was just throwing that out there - if it were me, I would tig it.
On a seperate note, what is typical EGT for a 951 under hard driving conditions?

Its ok, I could have welded it myself, but that would involve way more time and effort, buying bungs, and destroying more of the factory double wall tubing. I was also able to get the temperature sensor closer to the exhaust port than you ever could with bungs, not that that matters much, but to me it is cleaner. To each his own.

EGT probe installed using existing C02 test port bung, no welding required.
