Default Leaking Power steering hoses

I recently replaced the reservoir for the power steering system, and since then it has been leaking from the hose that connects the reservoir to the cooling coil. I have tried a couple times to cut off a small lenght of the hose to get a "fresh" start, yet no matter what, It still leaks from the resevoir/hose connection. I've also tried new hose clamps, and tightening the clamps, but it still leaks.

I beleive I need a new hose, however I don't want to pay the $150.00 for a new hose/ cooling coil. Is there a way I can replace just the rubber portion of this hose, or do I need to go with a whole new unit? Thanks!

I got the same prob. If the hose is cracked and brittle on top it probably is all the way down. I'm just going to pony up the $$$ for new hoses. You'll want to get this nailed down soon as I've been told that the ATF fluid dripping down can be bad for other hoses and bushings.

The hose from the reservoir-to-pump is ~$30 from a specialist. The hose from reservoir-to-cooling hose i never checked.

I had that problem so i took off the hoses, inspected them carefully and cleaned that area with engine cleaner and installed everything back. You MAY have a hose that is old and leaking (not from the hose clamp connection, but the actual hose itself).

Did you check the condition of the hose(s) carefully?

I caused myself the same problem when I tried to take my reservoir off the car and then gave up, tightening the clamps back down. Apparently when I was pulling carefully on the hoses (which never came off) they cracked a little where the clamps usually were because the old hose would not stretch over the wide nipple end of the reservoir. Then they leaked since that time. What I did was get a slightly larger clamp and put it right over the fatter end of the reservoir nipple and snugged it down. It seems like it has stopped leaking because the clamp is now holding the hose in a different place. I suppose there is more of a risk of pressure pushing the hose off the reservoir but I am willing to take that chance.

Every 944 I've ever seen (including mine) has problems with gooey power steering hoses. They're on my list of things to replace.

I believe the line is crimped onto the steering cooler, I suppose you could cut the crimp with a hacksaw, and use a hose clamp in it's place. Worst case, you still need to replace the line.
However, since a hose clamp (supposedly) works for the other end of the hose, it might work out just fine.

That line is hydraulic and is under pressure so the normal rubber line to replace the hose won't work. I took mine to a hydraulic shop and they cut a hi pressure hose and recrimped it saving me the cost of getting the entire cooler line(steel portion). This line goes to the rack along the Xmember and up to the right front fender then a crimped hose from the coil to the tank. 300.00 is what I was quoted for a replacement.

Regular hose clamps are NOT to be used on any PS hoses as the "slots" in the clamp will cut into the rubber and eventually leak as the fluid "softens" the rubber. Use flat band clamps on all connections.

The crimp on the OE hose at the hard line is the culprit. Find a hard rubber hydraulic line to fit the hard lines and have a shop crimp them. I was charged 50 bucks to fix mine.

The hose from the tank to the pump is NOT under hi pressure and can be replaced by a rubber hose, however the tank hose has an "upgrade fitting" to use and the hose is preformed to bend around the oil filter. This hose is FAMOUS for leaking and naturally gets real HOT near the OF and the hose ends break down(soften) then leak. But the normal hose clamps are NOT to be used here either!
OVERTIGHTENING the PS hoses is another cause. Hose will "bulge out" if compressed too much and will cause leakage as well.

Stupid question, but if the hose runs from the resevoir to the PS cooler, how can it be under pressure?
The resevoir will only take very minimal pressure. Although, if the resevoir ever is under pressure, I'm sure that would greatly contribute to the leaking.

The line that is the cooler is a return line coming from the rack under pressure and hot. When it hits the first crimp there is just enough pressure to return the fluid back up into the tank..bottom fed. This pressure is enough when the crimp goes bad it will leak. The hose used is steel lined rubber that holds up better to PS fluids vs rubber. The hose is under enough presure to require a heavier duty hose to crimp tightly with out crushing the hard line and cutting the hose. Rubber hose would collapse under the crimp and leak so a hydraulic hose is used more for connection than for hi pressure.
