Chris Harris Comments & Video
Chris Harris has been driving a new GT3 for a week and has been Tweeting & blogging a lot (such as The 991 GT3's motor is absolutely mind-scrambling. Between 8-9k rpm it does stuff I've not experienced before and Makes 4.0 seem a bit flat). He basically says he still misses the manual box but acknowledges the new engine needs PDK-S (and he LOVES the engine).
What emerges is actually a very simple choice: motor, or 'box? This is problematic because I rank changing gear as one of my preferred pastimes (yep, just read that and don't feel entirely comfortable with it), but, hell, I need that engine. It's simply the best motor I've experienced in years. To preclude living with that dreamy engine for the love of a third pedal might just be the great auto-existential question of modern times. And it's one to which, for the moment, the transmission does not form the basis of the answer.
I'd take the engine. I can't believe I'm saying that, but I'd take the engine.
And also buy an NSX to enjoy a real gearchange?
Need to lie down.
There will be a full video out next week – should be good!

Not having driven it, it's hard to for me assess this car. The reviews are consistently glowing, but they don't articulate the experience of driving the car in a way that helps me decide whether the car is right for me. Very frustrating ...

I think that is what Chris is dealing with. He seems to be implying that the engine simple revs up to quickly for a manual to be effect. The driver just couldn't keep up with engine. A manual box would essentially slow the car down. It needs to be PDK equipped to be so good.
I am starting agree with the "manual purists" up to a point. The 991 GT3 should have been offered with a manual gear box but not an H pattern box. It should come with a sequential manual like a race car. That way a skilled driver could keep up with the fast reving engine.

Here the hole blog of him ---> then people might understand the comment of "he thinks the car needs PDK" better…

Yeah, but he is basically saying you can’t have an engine this good with a manual box, and given the choice, he would choose PDK-S + the new engine over manual + old engine.

I never had the feeling my 4.0 didn't rev hard or was "flat"...
He's just trying to be nice to Porsche.
I can see where he's coming from if you have to make a choice.
IMHO Porsche can make this engine work just dandy with a 6 speed technically, just not financially as Chris says.
