Default My cruise control woes....

the CC never worked on my car. So today after the wife took the little one to the mall i had free time! so i followed the WSM diag breakdown for the CC and all tested *** it should.

i had a second brain so i replaced it, took the car out to 40ish mph, pressed the lever forward, waited... took foot off the gas and the CC failed me once again.

so here are my thoughts. the only part that id did not check was the speed sensor pin test on the CC controller hook up. i figured if the speedo works it should too. (am i wrong?) could i have a second bad brain? what else should i check?

If neither brain has been rebuilt, then it's very possible both are bad.

More for sympathy than hhelping you with your particular case perhaps... I too had a crack at my CC, also on a 1981 928. I ran through the procedure (whilst also doing other non-car jobs) and foolishly ended up pulling out and dismantling the Central Warning System as it has similar dimensions to the CC! Oh, and then I tore my nice Pasha seat with my knee whilst trying to get out from under the dash....

Meanwhile, I re-soldered my CC, checked the cable and checked the vacuum hoses. I re-installed everything and did a few road tests. At 65mph the cruise didn't work. At 50mph the cruise didn't work until I held it at the Acc position and lo and behold it would maintain speed until I released the lever. Then at 40mph the cruise actually worked, except the speed slowly increased until I had to stop for a corner. So I deduced I must have a vacuum leak?

My check valve is a bit hard to blow through (with my mouth) which is one remote possibility. More likely is the back of the HVAC control - the hoses appear to be a tad loose where they all plug in. It's hard to get to and I couldn't see an easy way to get the back of the HVAC off. Plus, I would probably need a new controller and hoses, and working behind the dash is my least favourite job, so I decided I would just have to live without CC!

cheers
Jim

Personally, I prefer to just rerun all the solder joints by hand. Take a little more time, but then I know it's fixed.

I'm gonna have to come over to your house... since it would help if I knew what board you were talking about The bright side is I'm going to John C's in the a.m. to test fit our new "928 Buckeye Landshark" windshield banners After that I'm headed to Middletown to work. Afterwards, I can take the long way home via your neck of the woods if your gonna be home

Could end up being a very productive day... 928 wise
