Porsche 928 Club Sport

This is one-of-one example of a Porsche 928 Club Sport will be auctioned off at the Broad Arrow All-Porsche auction later this month.

Just in case you needed another excuse to attend the ‘Air/Water’ event in Costa Mesa, California this month, we present to you this stunning 1989 Porsche 928 Club Sport. It will be auctioned off at the Broad Arrow All-Porsche auction that is part of the ‘Air/Water’ event to be held on April 27. The Porsche 928 has never really taken off with the Porsche collectors of the world. You can buy a garage full of decent 928s for the price of one decent long-hood 911. But the car that you see here is no regular 928. In fact, there is no other 928 like this one anywhere in the world.

This is a lightweight 928 “M637” Club Sport. Only 19 of these cars were ever made. This is the only one in the world finished in Forest Green Metallic over a Cashmere Beige and Black leather interior. So, the preauction estimate for this piece of Porsche history is $275,000 – $375,000. That is far more than what an average 928 would cost you. But this car is far from average.

The M637 package is so rare that most people don’t even know what it is. The most obvious indication that you are looking at a 928 Club Sport is the stylized Club Sport decal on the front fender. But this car is special for far more than just a sticker. The car got special manual sport seats, a short throw shifter, and a limited-slip differential.

The car was also lowered by 20mm while the track was widened by 150mm. To help keep the weight down the Club Sport got a lighter exhaust, magnesium wheels, and there was no sunroof or even any undercoating on the car. The 5.0L V8 engine under the hood was good for 316 horsepower.

This 928 Club Sport is rare and beautiful. It was also well cared for. The odometer shows 76,273 miles but the car looks as though it has covered only a fraction of those miles. That is mostly because between 2019 and 2021 over $70,000 was spent on bringing the car to this type of condition.

‘Also playing a role in the overall condition is the fact that Porsche retained the car for themselves after it was initially built.

The Porsche 928 deserves more love than it currently gets from many car enthusiasts. Even though in 1989 a Porsche 928 could cost as much or more than the 911 Turbo, the 928 has always been seen as lesser than the 911. Well, this stunning 928 Club Sport goes a long way towards reversing that sediment. This is a beautiful, powerful, and rare Porsche. Even if it sells for the high end of the preauction estimate, it would be considered a bargain.
