Trade Your Porsche 911 GT2 RS for a Florida Island

Trading a rare Porsche for a three-acre undeveloped piece of land sounds crazy from both sides of the deal.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the most track-capable road-going car to ever roll out of Stuttgart. With 700 horsepower, track-tuned suspension and race-ready aero bits, the GT2 RS got around the Nurburgring more quickly than the 918 supercar, but with just 1,000 units built for the entire world during the one-year run, the incredible 911 was incredibly hard to get.

According to The Drive, one Florida man missed out on his chance to buy a 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS when they were priced starting just under $300,000, so he is willing to trade an island off of the coast of Florida with a listed value of more than a half-million dollars. However, the deal isn’t as sweet as it sounds, as the piece of land is partially under water, it is totally undeveloped and it is only accessible by boat, but if you are a Porsche owner who has tired of the 700-horsepower supercar and society as a whole, you could be in luck.

The Florida Property

The offer to trade this Florida island for a 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS was posted to Craigslist for the Daytona area. To be exact, the owner is looking to trade his private three-acre land located on the Florida Atlantic intracoastal waters, technically in the city of Port Orange, Florida. The idea of owning a three-acre island south of Daytona Beach sounds nice, but as the images here show, this island is only partially dry and there is literally nothing on it. There are no structures of any kind, no boat dock, nothing. Just trees, a far-off view of civilization and endless customization options, as the buyer will have to build anything that he or she wants on their desolate piece of Florida property.

Florida Island Wide Porsche Trade

On Realtor.com, the owner is asking $568,000 for this piece of property, so in theory, someone who is trading a $300,000 Porsche is getting a great deal. Of course, that 911 owner will have to want to pay big money to get off of the grid and into a soggy, undeveloped piece of land.

In the long run, the odds of the island owner finding a Porsche owner who wants to make this trade are slim, but it never hurts to try. The property owner has previously tried to trade this piece of land for a Porsche 918 and a Ferrari Enzo in the past without luck, but in shooting for a less expensive car, perhaps this time will be different.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
