The Porsche 718 Boxster Is Better Than the 986 in Every Way

The new Porsche 718 Boxsters are here, turbochargered flat-fours and all, and there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s (obviously) much different than the flat-six engines this line started on, and there are plenty of people who aren’t exactly psyched about it. Boxsters have always been flat-sixes, that’ just how it is.

The original 986 Boxster holstered a 2.5-liter six-cylinder that put out 201 horsepower. Not exactly a tire destroyer, but the nimble-natured convertible package pleased plenty of people. The base 718 has a 2.0-liter turbo-four, while the beefier S model has a 2.5-liter turbo-four. That means more power, quicker jumps, and higher speeds.
