Drone footage of a Porsche Cayman GT4 RS is the perfect way to experience what might be the perfect car.

The Porsche Cayman GT4 RS is still a fairly new product, and a pretty incredible one at that. Rather than tease us with some sort of four-cylinder-powered ultimate version of the mid-engine machine, Porsche instead went all-out and gave the newest GT4 RS the same high-revving 4.0-liter flat-six as the 911 GT3, churning out 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque – just a touch shy of the GT3, which makes 502 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. The result is pure magic, and it’s well worth listening to this engine explore its 9,000 rpm rev limit in this recent video from Porsche.

Here, we get to take a ride along with the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS as it carves up canyons down a forest road with a drone in tow, providing us with a bird’s eye view that’s rather stunning to take in. For Porsche fans, it’s a scene akin to a dream, our idea of the perfect way to spend a beautiful day off from our daily grind – albeit virtually, at least.

It’s only fitting that Porsche would use the Cayman GT4 RS as the subject of such a high level production, as this may very well represent the ultimate send-off for its good old fashioned naturally-aspirated track weapon. With an all-electric version of the Cayman on the cusp of debuting, it honestly just wouldn’t generate the same sort of high-strung drama that’s present in this video.

In the meantime, we can simply sit back and enjoy this short but entertaining clip in all of its sonic and visual glory, of course. Even today, some time after the new Porsche Cayman GT4 RS officially debuted, it’s no less impressive in terms of performance ether, with real-world 0-60 times come in at a stunning 2.8 seconds, while the quarter-mile flashes by in 11 seconds flat – just a tenth off of the previous-generation 911 GT3.

There was once a time when Porsche was keen to ensure that the Cayman continued to play second fiddle to the 911 in that regard, but in the case of the GT4 RS, that isn’t really the case. While the mid-engine machine has a few less ponies than its big brother, it doesn’t give up much of anything in the way of performance, and to us at least, that makes it the very best Cayman yet – and perhaps, the best driver’s Porsche on sale today.
