Porsche 911 964 X85 Flachbau Flat Nose

964 Porsche 911 Turbo S X85 Flachbau features a rare flat-nose front end.

There are all kinds of interesting variations of the Porsche 911. Considering its production run of nearly 60 years, it’s hard to imagine keeping track of all the limited and special editions. This one, the 964 911 Turbo S X85 Flachbau, is one many may not know of. Though Flachbau roughly translates to “low-rise” in English, this front end is typically referred to as the flat-nose. This incredibly rare option cost over $60,000 on top of the car’s price back in 1994. Only 39 of these cars came to the U.S. So, the chance to purchase one is infrequent. If you’ve got the capital and want one of the rarest 911s there is, now’s your chance. This one is for sale.

It’s currently listed on Bring A Trailer. At the time of writing, it has a little over a week left and a current bid price of $300,000. Though, it is likely to go much higher.

How much will this car sell for?

It’s hard to say, exactly. We are by no means collector car appraisers. However, in 2018 a yellow 911 Turbo S X85 Flachbau sold at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island auction for an eye-watering $654,000. This example has around 8,000 more miles than the yellow one. However, coming in at three years later than that sale date, who’s to say what exactly it will sell for. One thing we can be sure of, though, is that it’ll be a monumental number. We can always count that on when it comes to a rare Porsche.

As far as the drivetrain, it is a standard affair for a 964 Turbo S. Beneath the deck lid sits an air-cooled and turbocharged 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Factory power output is rated at 380 horsepower. This particular engine has an aftermarket diverter valve, though that isn’t much of a power-adding modification.

Inside you’ll find Cashmere and black leather upholstery in nearly immaculate condition, as one might expect with such low mileage. This interior color choice quite nicely compliments the Guards Red exterior.

According to the Carfax report, this vehicle has now had four owners and did get into an accident in 1996 where it hit a stationary object. Though, it does still have a clean title. Despite the unbranded title, this accident still may hinder the final sales price. Only time will tell.

Also included in the sale is a Porsche certificate of authenticity, the original Porsche toolkit, and a Porsche branded tire inflation kit.

Take a look while you can

These cars do not come up often, so regardless of whether owning one is financially feasible for you, it’s still an amazing sight to see. Considering the ownership history and the reported accident, there’s a chance this car won’t be forever tied up inside. Here’s hoping the next owner will take it out for a drive here and then. After all, where’s the fun in having something incredibly special if you can’t share it with the world?
