1977 Porsche 911S

Forum member sold his beloved 911S over 30 years ago, but his love for the Porsche never died.

Automotive enthusiasts like ourselves are a little different from your average, non-gearhead types. For one, we tend to cherish our rides as more than just daily transportation. We loathe tight parking spaces, rain, and the misplaced keys of passing neanderthals. The love for a particular car, like a Porsche, typically starts early and runs deep. So when we come across a story like that of Rennlister RFP and his long lost love, a 1977 911S, we tend to get a little misty eyed.

RFP (or Rob, as he’s known to the rest of the world) owned this particular Porsche back in the late 70s to early 80s. He sold it sometime in 1985-86. And now, he’s determined to get it back. So he posted the pertinent info in this Rennlist forum post, hoping that someone would be able to help.

“Good day all… I hope I’m posting this in the right forum(!)

I know that this is a long shot, but I’d really like to find the 1977 911S that I owned back in the late 70s and early 80s.

Here’s what I can tell you:

1. VIN – 9117202263
2. Color: Sienna Metallic
3. Interior: Lobster leather
4. Fitted with Recaro seats (‘LS” I think), black fabric with the orange ‘spectrum’ center sections.
5. Rear fold-down seats upholstered in matching Recaro fabric
6. CIS removed and Webers installed
7. Through-the-body front sway bar
8. Gotti wheels (gold centers)

I sold this car either in 1985 or 1986. I live in Texas (between Fort Worth and Dallas) and the sale was to another Texas resident.

But I would love to find it!

If anyone has any information, or even a good lead, I would really like to hear from you.

Thanks!”

Perhaps the best thing about Rob’s 1977 911S is that he drove the car as intended, enjoying some racing success around his home state of Texas back in the day.

“I was really active in Maverick Region PCA during my ownership of this car. The car was really competitive in its class in autocross events and on the 1.8-mile Oak Hill road track at Henderson, Texas (the car and I won the “Year’s First Place Trophies” for both of those series in 1983 (autocross AND Oak Hill). I was pretty limited in my wrenching skills as well as bravery back then, so my friend Ed Mayo did all the work on the car (we both had a LOT more hair back then). If I were actually able to find the car today, it would probably either (1) be in a wrecking yard somewhere, (2) maintained and restored over the years and I couldn’t afford it, or (3) a nice “driver” still in use and the current owner wouldn’t think of selling.

But I would love to find it!”

It’s quite evident that Rob misses his old flame, and we’d like to chip in and help him reunite with it. So if you have any information or leads on the whereabouts of this special Porsche, head over here and lend him a helping hand!
