Rennlist purchase lives on in the frozen Wisconsin motorsport landscape in the form of a safari 996 Porsche 911.

If this car looks familiar, that’s because it’s been on Rennlist before. Not because 996’s are quite popular on our forum, but because this actual car was purchased on our marketplace. We happened to spot his 996 at Road America during one of their winter autocross events. In fact, we paddocked right next to this car.

A driver by the name of Adam Kern is the new owner of this 2000 Porsche 911, and he’s decided that he will enjoy the car all year long. In the summer months, he’s had it at Autobahn Country Club, but since then, he’s given it a bit of the safari treatment. JRZ suspension is found inside, along with other goodies from OMP. Keen eyes will spot the GT3 style seats in the car, too. A half-cage resides in the back, and the shifter has been upgraded too, but other than that, it is very familiar 996 interior.

The added ride height from the suspension kit helps clear dainty snow tires mounted on Braid rims. 195/65/15 is a size more associated with economy cars, and definitely not a Porsche 911 of this vintage. But they do a decent enough job of clearing the brakes, and narrower tread is a benefit on the slippery stuff.

While it may be an unusual configuration to spot at Road America, Kern placed this 911 in its element. Up against some AWD machinery, the 996 could hold its own. On a high speed section of Road America’s actual circuit, Kern was able to get second place in RWD class. On the second part of the course, held on Road America’s kart track, Kern would repeat that finishing position. Interestingly enough being beat out by a Lotus Evora on both occasions.

So if you’re stuck at home looking for something to do with your Porsche during this long winter, we suggest taking it for a spin at a local winter autocross. If you’re willing to get your car a little dirty, there might be some hardware for you to take home.
