Considering what happened last year, this 993 GT2 looks primed to reach a whole new level of air-cooled madness.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last several years, you already know that air-cooled Porsche prices have reached new levels of insanity. And that rocket ship ride northward doesn’t seem likely to fizzle out anytime soon. This is especially true when you’re talking about rare examples of the breed, like the legendary 993 GT2.

A mere 57 road-going versions of these hardcore, race-focused 911s were produced. Combine that scarcity with the fact that many consider the 993 to be the pinnacle of air-cooled Porsche goodness, and you’ve got a recipe for big bucks. After all, we saw a Rivera Blue 993 GT2 hammer for a cool $2.4 million at last year’s RM Sotheby’s London auction. And now, this stellar white example has a chance to reset the market once again.

Chassis #WP0ZZZ99ZTS392127 is set to cross the block at RM Sotheby’s New York auction in December. Unfortunately, they aren’t offering up any detailed information or history on the car – yet. But judging from the photos, this example is in pretty amazing shape. Which has to make you think that the auction estimate of $1.1-1.4 million might be a bit low.

In all fairness, RM missed the mark on the Rivera Blue car as well. Their initial estimate on that equally pristine example was $1.0-1.133 million, and we see how that went. You certainly can’t discount the fervor surrounding air-cooled Porsches these days. Especially when it comes to the ultra rare, flared-out, 430 hp beast that is the 993 GT2.

So even if you’re not exactly in the market for a car like this, you might want to tune in for the New York auction, taking place December 6. Because it’s a pretty safe bet we’ll see the market for rare, air-cooled Porsches reach a whole new level.
