Porsche Unveils How the Taycan is Made in Raw Video Footage

By -

The Porsche Taycan is ready to challenge the Tesla Model S as the king of sport EVs.

Porsche has maintained its status as a tier-one performance auto manufacturer for decades. Consistency on the track, beauty in the showrooms, and performance on the roadways have served the brand well since it was first founded in Stuttgart, Germany on April 25th, 1931. Millions of vehicles have rolled off of the assembly line, onto dealer showrooms, and into the driveways of families the world over. And a commitment to quality remains a calling-card for the manufacturer to this day.

It’s rare to get a detailed look at the automotive manufacturing method, but Porsche recently gave us all a front-row seat to witness exactly how it all happens. In a near 30-minute video, cameras follow the process of manufacturing the Taycan in a very detailed and thorough manner proffering multiple angles, beautiful shots, and close-up views of world-class craftsmanship and autonomous machinery at work.

Much of the tour focuses on Porsche’s many robotic assemblers. Layering in each piece of the Taycan with impossible precision and craft. Afterward, each step is inspected by human counterparts to ensure the quality Porsche has come to be known by. Each worker meticulously pouring over the freshly assembled components.

The Taycan is the first car to truly fill the spot of a direct competitor to the Tesla Model S sport electric vehicle. With a blistering 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds, 670hp, and 626 lb-ft of torque in the Turbo S trim, it fills that void rather nicely. Porsche rates the charging time on Direct current at a speedy 22.5 minutes and gives it a top speed of 161mph.

While the Taycan is stunning in its own right, the clip showcases the beauty housed both beneath the glossy exterior and within the manner of manufacture. The lack of music combined with the factory sounds, repetitious movements, and smooth camerawork lend to an ASMR feel. It’s relaxing, satisfying to watch as these chunks of aluminum and wire unfurl into full-fledged automobiles
