Porsche Teases the Taycan (and Electricity) in New Spot
New ad gives us a glimpse of the Taycan on the road, and it looks and sounds like high-voltage heaven.Â
Porsche has been very secretive in letting us see the all-new Porsche Taycan. The electric Porsche is no doubt going to be a major game changer. It is an all-electric vehicle that promises to be pure Porsche in its DNA.
Sure, we’ve gotten some teases and glimpses of prototypes, but this spot finally lets us see the Taycan performing on the road. Well, kind of.
In the video, we see a fleet of three Taycans driving on the wild and curvy roads of Nevada and Arizona around the Hoover Dam. It is evening, so they remain shrouded in a little mystery still.
But what we can tell is these cars have power. They sound amazing! The Taycan is powered by two electric motors. Porsche has said it will produce a combined 600 horsepower, and will go 0-62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds. Now, specs on paper are one thing. But listening to this powerful car in action, oh yeah. It sounds like an appropriate Porsche beast.
We get some quick shots of the Taycan from above, as well as a look as they whiz down the road. They look sleek, modern, and different. We know it Porsche has used the 911, Panamera, and 918 in its inspiration, and it shows. The back is modern, and dynamic and bears the Porsche emblem proudly.
The kicker of the ad is the cars pull up to the Hoover Dam and project a message.
It’s a clever nod to how the Taycan will run electric, but stay looking hot and sleek. No offense to the Hoover Dam, but we think the Taycan’s powertrain will be decidedly more sexy.
We are confident the Taycan is going to shake things up, and change the minds of some EV doubters. “My vision is that the Taycan will become the icon of this new era, almost like a synonym for a purely electric sports car,” Porsche designer Michael Mauer said. “Just like what the 911 has achieved in its segment over the past decades.”
Check out the video and let us know what you think of the 2020 Taycan, set to make its full reveal in September.
