Whirlwind Tour

We're getting ever-so-close to the debut of Porsche's very first all-electric vehicle, the Taycan. And you know what that means. Week by week, Porsche is slowly pulling the covers off the car, and it continued to do so with a recent three week trip across three continents.

Official Debut

The official Taycan prototype made its official public debut during the Porsche Triple Demo Run, which kicked off at the Porsche Experience Center in Shanghai before heading off the U.K. and U.S.

Paying Tribute

As it visits each country, the Taycan prototype will feature a different livery on its roof that pays tribute to that particular place. In Shanghai, the prototype featured a dragon graphic. And it was piloted by Li Chao, a Porsche Carrera Cup Asia driver.

Early Impressions

Needless to say, Chao came away impressed. "From uncompromisingly sporty to surprisingly comfortable, the chassis of the new Taycan covers a wide range and successfully combines the precise handling of a sports car and the long-distance comfort of a saloon. In addition to its low center of gravity, the rear-axle steering also plays a crucial role. The Taycan steers into corners very directly and has plenty of grip."

Electric Hill Run

After its stop in China, the Taycan prototype is set to head to England to participate in the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed Hill Run, taking place July 4-7. There, we'll really get a chance to see what it's got in a legendary setting.

Wrapping Up

The Taycan prototype's world-wide tour wraps up with an appearance at the season finale of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in New York on July 13-14, where it'll be driven by legendary drivers Mark Webber and Neel Jani.

Millions of Miles

Porsche says that by the time it goes on sale in September, the Taycan will have covered over 3.7 million test miles, which is on par with the type of testing they put all their gas-powered machines through as well.

Hot or Cold

This is especially important for an electric vehicle, given the effects various extreme temperatures have on batteries. Porsche claims that the Taycan will offer "unrestricted everyday usability in all climatic conditions."

Peeling Back Layers

As for how this official Taycan prototype looks, well, it's a lot like the mules we've seen previously. It still carries those fake exhaust tips and plenty of camo. But we also get a very good look at the car's Panamera-like shape.

True Revolution

Thus far, Porsche has been keen to tease us with Taycan spoilers, so you can bet that this isn't the last we'll see before September. But when you're building a car this revolutionary, we suppose that's warranted.
