Porsche Recalls Macan EV

Three unlucky Macan EV owners will be getting recall letters in the next couple of weeks.

The Macan EV being recalled over improper air bag deployment may be a bit of a scary headline, but there is no need for widespread panic. Only two 2024 Macan 4 electric models and one 2025 model are part of this recall. So, if you are one of the roughly 20,000 Macan EV owners in the U.S., the odds are you will not be one of the three people that bought one with the air bag issue. If you are one of the three, then you need to understand what this recall is all about.

So, what exactly is the issue? In a nutshell, the front seat air bags may be improperly secured to the backrest frame, which can prevent the air bags from deploying properly. To make matters worse, loose components may pose an injury risk to occupants in the Macan EV. With only three vehicles impacted the population is small, but the injury risk is significant so you will want to get the recall repair carried out as quickly as possible.

Description of Issue

The front seat air bags are not installed properly in the recalled vehicles. During assembly the operator inserted the screw directly into the frame without first guiding it through the designated eyelet on the airbag housing. Because of this, the respective airbag is only partially engaged at the top section of the frame.

The issue was first reported on July 11. Porsche responded quickly and by July 15 testing was completed, and the issue was confirmed. On July 23 the issue was presented to Porsche’s safety evaluation committee.

At that time the decision to issue a recall was made. The two 2024 Macan EVs that were recalled were produced between August 2 and 13, 2024. The 2025 model was produced on April 15, 2025.

Fix

The remedy for this recall is pretty straightforward and does not require replacing any parts. The screw connection of the airbag bracket to the seat frame must be checked. If it is not connected properly, it will be adjusted so the bracket is mounted according to specifications. This inspection and rework will be performed at no charge to the customer.

Owners will be notified of the recall by letter sent on September 26, 2025. Owners may also contact Porsche customer service directly at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche’s number for this recall is ASA7. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.

Macan EV Recalls

According to NHTSA this is the first recall for the Porsche Macan 4 electric model. The base Macan EV model has been recalled twice. Once for an issue with the rearview camera and once for headlights that are too bright.

That is not too bad considering these are brand new EV models for Porsche. By comparison the 2023 BMW iX has 12 recalls issued against it. That includes a do not drive order because of a fire risk. So, the news about Porsche recalling just three Macan EVs isn’t all that bad.
