Porsche Offering Manual 911 GT3, and More Good News

911 GT3 manual

Here’s some good news to kick off your weekend: the next Porsche 911 GT3 will offer a tried-and-true six-speed manual gearbox. That’s right, the same stick we’re so excited about in the new 2017 Porsche 911R will be offered as an option for the GT3. So this certainly is a case of TGIF.

Apparently, back in 2013, the GT team used a manual GT3 prototype to test against the PDK model. “We had a GT3 manual test car left and we all loved it,” said Porsche’s GT head, Andreas Preuninger, who spoke with AutoCar. “The manual still had many positive sides. So we took the spoiler off the test car, added some lightweight stuff, some stripes and a classic interior.”

But wait, there’s more good news! Preuninger said the GT cars will also continue to offer naturally aspirated options “for the foreseeable future.” Furthermore, all “GT” 911s, save for the GT2, will continue to be naturally aspirated.

Preuninger also noted that more special edition “purist” models could indeed be forthcoming, depending on how strong the reaction is for the 911R. (Since that car is supposedly already sold out, it seems that success is well underway.) He also said that the upcoming Cayman GT4 will be getting a six-banger, not the four-cylinder from the 718 Cayman.

Alas, it’s not all good news for purists, as Preuninger confirmed that the next GT3 RS will continue to be offered only with PDK. Oh well, it seems we still have plenty to celebrate this weekend, don’t you think?
