2022 Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design

Porsche celebrates Porsche Design anniversary with Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design based on Targa 4 GTS.

Time flies when you are designing icons. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche designed the venerable 911, and in 1972 he founded Porsche Design. This year Porsche Design celebrates 50 years in business. What started with designer watches has grown to include eyewear, luggage, electronics and more. To celebrate this milestone anniversary Porsche is releasing a new limited edition 911 model.

It will be called the Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design or E50YPD for short. It will also be accompanied with a special Porsche Design timepiece called the Chronograph 1 – 911 50 Years of Porsche Design. The car and watch will be limited to just 750 units.

Porsche also announced a second limited edition timepiece to commemorate the occasion. This watch will be called the Chronograph 1 -1972 Limited Edition. This timepiece will be sold separately from the car and is limited to 500 units worldwide.

This watch pays tribute to the first watch to come out of Porsche Design. It has a solid titanium case back with the Porsche Design logo. It carries an MSRP of $7,700.

The watches are very cool, but the car is the big story. The 911 E50YPD is based on the 2022 Targa 4 GTS. Unlike other 911s this car will only be available in black as a nod to the Porsche Design Chronograph 1. That was the first all-black watch to come from Porsche Design.

The black will be setoff with Satin Platinum touches on the 911 Turbo S wheels, the Targa bar, and Porsche Design logos on the doors. The brake calipers will be high gloss black. There will be “50 Years Porsche Design” badge on the engine grille as well.

One peek inside and you will know that this is a special edition 911. The most striking feature are the seats with Sport-Tex seat centers with a checked pattern in Black and Cool Grey. The seat headrests are embossed with the 50 Years Porsche Design logo.

The GT Sport steering wheel comes with a center marker in Slate Grey. Buyers will also get a silver, numbered badge on the dashboard trim indicating where the car fits in the sequence of the 750 units total.

Porsche 911 E50YPD – Standard Equipment

Porsche Design 911

Mechanically the Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design is not any different than a standard Targa 4 GTS. But that is in no way a disappointment. The car comes with a 3.0L twin-turbo flat-six making 473 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The car will come with the PDK transmission as standard, but the 7-speed manual is a no cost option. The Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive system is also on this limited-edition model.

So, while mechanically it may be the same as the Targa 4 GTS it does have some additional standard equipment. That additional equipment includes 18-way Adaptive Sport Seats Plus, seat belts in Slate Grey, and the Sport Chrono Package with Porsche Design Subsecond Clock.

The clock is distinguished in this model by a red second hand.

The car with the Chronograph 1 – 911 50 Years of Porsche Design watch will have an MSRP of $195,850 excluding the $1,350 for delivery, processing and handling.

It is not cheap but considering the last limited-edition Targa, the Heritage Edition goes for nearly $300K on the second hand market this 911 E50YPD could be a solid deal if you can land one at MSRP.
