PCA Brings Pros to Sim Racing Via New GT3 Series
Porsche-sponsored PCA Pro GT3 Cup Series invitational starts March 10 at Sebring International Raceway, Podium eSports to broadcast all seven rounds.
Back in the early days of the pandemic, one of the biggest things affected was motorsport. Suddenly, tracks fell silent across the globe, no longer graced by the glorious sounds of turbo Porsches. However, the Porsche Club of America found a way to continue its activities without the need to be at the track: by setting foot into the virtual plaza via sim racing. Thus, the birth of PCA Sim Racing.
Coming off its successful Series 7 series, PCA Sim Racing is ready to take things to the next level. On January 24, the organizers announced its newest invitational series to the world: the PCA Pro GT3 Cup Series.
“We wanted to create a series to give our best of the PCA Sim Racers an avenue to ‘take the gloves off,’” said PCA Sim Racing’s PCA Pro GT3 Cup Series Manager Jim Huth. “No better way than to get them on track with some of the professional Porsche drivers from around the country.â€
Sponsored by Porsche and taking place entirely within the iRacing sim racing service, the PCA Pro GT3 Cup Series format includes a 35-minute open qualifier, followed by a pair of 40-minute races. The car of choice will be the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992), introduced to iRacing back in September 2021. The list of participants, including celebrity guests and Porsche Carrera Cup North America drivers, will be announced closer to the first race in early March.
“I am really excited about this new PCA Sim Racing series mixing top level PCA Pro sim drivers with drivers from professional race teams connecting virtual and real racing to benefit driver development,” said PCA Nord Stern Region President and PCA Pro GT3 Cup Series Coordinator Stephen Kemp. “It will be a very competitive series for all drivers to hone their skills with the Porsche GT3 Cup (992) car on great North American tracks.”
The PCA Pro GT3 Cup Series begins March 10, 2022 at 8 p.m. Eastern/5 p.m. Pacific upon iRacing’s version of Sebring International Raceway. All seven rounds will be carried on sim racing broadcaster Podium eSports through their Twitch, Facebook and YouTube channels. More info can be obtained by visiting here.
