One year after the global pandemic closed everything, Petersen opens doors again with new schedule, precautions, and no interactives.

Shortly after the global pandemic divebombed the United States, tons of our favorite events and places closed up shop. One of those places? The Petersen Automotive Museum, a haven for all Porsche enthusiasts around the world. Though the museum made up for the closure with several events in the Virtual Plaza, there was a hole in our hearts, one that could only be filled by visiting the museum in person.

The wait is coming to an end. On Thursday, March 25, the Petersen reopens to the public.

Of course, the pandemic is still here (for now). Thus, as vaccinations ramp up to the point where herd immunity is possible, the Petersen is doing all it can to keep its patrons safe. First off, all tickets must be pre-purchased before entering. Additionally, all guests must pass an online wellness check prior to the visit. Cash stays at home, too. Only plastic and contactless payments will do going forward.

Once at the Petersen, guests will be given a stylus to do everything from touch elevator buttons to sign off on purchases. Masks are to be worn at all times, excluding those under two years of age. Social distancing is mandatory, and all guests must obey barriers and follow directional signage. Handwashing and usage of the hand-sanitizing stations are encouraged.

In light of this, all interactive exhibits remain closed for the foreseeable future. This includes the Forza Motorsport Gallery, Pixar Discovery Center, and the World’s Reimagined Hololens exhibits.

Redefine Performance with Porsche

The Petersen’s efforts to protect its guests will be worth it. Especially when Porsche has a new exhibit in the museum: Porsche: Redefining Performance. There, you’ll find all of Stuttgart’s greatest hits, including the 2015 911 RSR, the 910, and the 356 SL Gmund Coupe.

Operating hours and days have changed, too. From March 25 on, the Petersen will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This gives the staff a couple of days to thoroughly clean the museum to keep you and yours safe. Certainly better than not being able to visit your favorite Porsches at all.
