Instagram 3D Artist Gives Us a Stunning Widebody 928

Porsche 928 Rendering

Rendering shows the 928 transformed from a luxury GT cruiser to an all-out time attack monster.

The Porsche 928 may have gone out of production last century but the V8 coupe still generates plenty of interest. From the earliest iterations through the final model year, the 928 was a favorite for many. It never replaced the 911 as originally intended, but that does not mean it was a failure. In fact, rumors of its comeback in various forms have been floating around for years. We have seen renderings before showing us what a modern day 928 could look like. They have been tantalizing for sure, but we haven’t seen anything quite like this before.

Andreas Richter (a.k.a., a_r.visual), is a self-taught 3D artist based in Berlin. He has a different take on the 928. It is not so much an eye to the future but an update to the past. Using his Instagram account, he shows us what an original Porsche 928 could look like if it was setup for maximum attack. Richter uses the RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF style and applies it to the 928, among others. This is one of those times when we see a rendering and wish we could snap our fingers and make it come to life.

Richter originally designed the kit to fit on a Fiat 500, but he was not pleased with the final result. He then switched gears and imagined the kit on a Porsche 928. According to Richter, his inspiration for using the 928 was: “Because it’s quite an uncommon car to imagine a RWB treatment on it.” You can say that again, but this outside the box thinking has given us a great looking concept.

What strikes you immediately upon seeing this car is obviously the massive wide body kit with the bulging fenders. While clearly quite exaggerated from the original 928 design, the look seems to flow quite well with the proportion of the car.

It is aggressive but familiar. It is like bumping into a friend that you have not seen in ten years and he has packed on 25 pounds of muscle. You recognize him but are a little taken aback at the new physique.

It is the little things, however, that make this rendering more impressive. Look closely at the wheels. Massive traditional looking wheels live out back. Up front is a modern take on classic turbofan wheels. If turbofans were good enough for the Porsche 956 race car, among others, then it is good enough for this 928. It is a cool styling touch to bring the past back to the present. However, look closer still. You will notice the 928 rendering rides on semi-slick airless tires.

There is no mention or indication of what type of engine would motivate this car, but with looks like this it deserves a thundering V8. Electric cars are quick, but since we are already daydreaming a bit here, let us pretend this car has a naturally-aspirated 500 horsepower V8. Of course, we would want this mated to a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. OK, OK—enough dreaming.

The Porsche 928 might be coming back someday, but we will ever see anything as wild as this design come from the factory. However, that does not mean someone cannot buy a currently neglected 928 and build a time attack monster like this. Sure, it will be crazy expensive and time consuming but if it were easy everyone would have a car like this. Come on Rennlisters, there has to be someone out there that is willing to take this on.
