Hybrid Porsche 911 debuts May 28th, and it brings with it a Nurburgring time that shatters the best time from a 992 Carrera S.

Porsche is no stranger to being a trendsetter when it comes to the electrified future. Of course, the Taycan stands out as a battery-electric vehicle that still has all the prowess, performance, and pedigree that a Porsche should. Furthermore, the iconic 918 Spyder went out of its way to show automotive enthusiasts that we need not fear the future. Rather, we should embrace it and take advantage of what it has to offer. The incoming hybrid Porsche 911 will further that thinking, and there are already performance figures to back it up.

In a news release, Porsche announced that the new hybrid 911 will make its official debut on May 28th, 2024. Though there are no details about power or drivetrain specifics, Porsche did share with the world the impressive Nurburgring time that the hybrid 911 put down. It’s Nothing short of impressive.

On September 15th, 2023, one of the hybrid 911 development cars set an impressive Nurburgring lap time of 7:16.934. That’s eight seconds faster than the 992 Porsche 911 Carrera S. Of course, Porsche wanted to ensure that the new 911 would thrive in any conditions. The race track can be brutal, but the general climate of some parts of the world can be equally treacherous for vehicle health.

“We left nothing to chance during development and tested the new 911 under all sorts of conditions all over the world, from the freezing cold to scorching heat, as was the case during the final stages of testing in Dubai. Whether at a high drivetrain load in the demanding conditions of mountain passes or in the stop-and-go traffic of an urban environment, the new 911 has mastered even the most difficult challenges with aplomb. Our engineers and test drivers clocked up more than 3.1 million miles of development driving,” said Frank Moser, Vice President of Model Line 911 and 718 at Porsche.

Porsche says it drove over three million miles developing the new hybrid Porsche 911. That’s a great deal of testing that seems to confirm that Porsche is set on the hybrid variant of its iconic rear-engine sports car being every bit as dependable as its historical predecessors.

What Engine Will the Hybrid Porsche 911 Have?

Unfortunately, we have no information as to what engine will accompany the electric drivetrain. However, it’s it’s safe to assume that it’ll be a flat-six. After all, the uproar that would come from diehard Porsche enthusiasts if Porsche were to put a four-cylinder engine in a 911 chassis would be deafening. That said, this is purely speculation. For all we know, it could be a one-cylinder powerplant.

What we do know, though, is that we’re embracing this incoming hybrid Porsche 911. As we mentioned above, the 918 Spyder truly showed us what the harmony of a hybrid powertrain in a high-performance chassis could do. It’s hard to believe, but the 918 is now a decade old. Battery and electric motor technology has come a long way in the past ten years, and we can’t wait to see what Porsche has in store.
