Can you improve on a Porsche GT1? UK-based company Tuthill thinks they can.

Singer has always kind of played their game smart. Take a 911, give it a power bump, tons of flair, and engineering that makes design nerds out of us all. Tuthill takes a different approach. They are tryin their hand at a re-think of the GT1.

Unveiled at Monterey Car Week – but spotted before the show – Tuthill’s GT One is initially very stunning. But once you learn more about it, the more interesting it actually gets. Road & Track reports the GT One is styled by computer fluid dynamics. So even though it looks great, it’s not necessarily a faithful rep of the original.

And ot doesn’t have to be. There’s no need for this one to win Le Mans, even though it’s more than capable on the track. An FIA rated roll cage is in the interior, hidden behind the trim panels. and two different engines will be available. A naturally aspirated flat six with 500 horsepower is the “base” option. Or a pair of turbochargers ups the ante to 600.

Inside, it’s less race car and more… modern. In fact, so much has changed that we don’t really even recognize which chassis generation this is based off of. Though our bets would be 991 or 992. Who knows, we could be way off. Either way, the interior is sparse, in a minimalistic way. No buttons adorn the steering wheel. That’s only flanked on both sides by PDK paddles. Don’t worry, an H-pattern will be on offer.

To rewind for just a moment, though, it doesn’t matter which generation is the basis for this awesome ride. Tuthill has done the unthinkable and taken a Porsche legend and recreated it in such a way that is neither offensive or trying too hard. With enough fine craftsmanship, everything becomes desirable, and the GT One is a perfect example of that.

Though it is claimed that more track-focused variants will eventually emerge, we don’t think they need to. This is a fine machine to drive, and better yet, it’s satisfying to even just look at it. We think the world needs more long-tail specials.
