Gold Rush: Porsche Panamera Trio Transports $13M
The Panamera Sport Turismo is a well-rounded, utilitarian ride. Turns out, it also makes an excellent gold bullion transport!
We imagine it would be pretty awesome to be sitting on millions of dollars worth of gold. You could stare at it and take selfies with it. Heck, maybe even build yourself a throne out of it. But sitting on this much shiny stuff is obviously also nerve racking. After all, there are always going to be enterprising thieves out there trying to figure out how to relieve you of your stash. And if you have to move said gold? Well, talk about a stressful situation!
But that’s exactly the scenario that took place in London, England recently. The folks at Baird & Co., one of England’s largest gold refiners and bullion merchants, needed to move a cool 10 million pounds (just under $14 million dollars) worth of gold from a refinery in East London’s Docklands to a new underground vault in Hatton Garden. The haul consisted of 24 bars, each weighing around 27 pounds each. Obviously, this was a job that required a special kind of vehicle.
So Baird & Co. rang up the folks in Stuttgart for some assistance in making the 12 mile journey. The duo decided that the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo would be the perfect vehicle to transport this precious cargo, for a number of reasons. For starters, the Panamera is fast and nimble enough to make the trip in haste. Baird also needed something that could carry, in addition to the gold, multiple passengers –Â the driver, a radio operator, and specialist security.
