Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition

Ferry Porsche built the car of his dreams more than 70 years ago, and Porsche Design celebrates it with the Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition.

If you have even a casual interest in Porsche, you know that they are celebrating a major anniversary this year. For 75 years they have been building some of the best sports cars on the planet. And they have been celebrating all year long with special events and special cars. And now Porsche Design is getting in on the act with a special watch. It is called the Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition. And just like many of the special Porsche cars, this new watch will only be made in limited numbers. Just 475 pieces are expected to be sold. They will retail for $11,000 each.

The Chronograph I was the first timepiece developed by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in 1972 to mark the foundation of Porsche Design. This new watch pays homage to the original as well as to some other iconic Porsche features such as the legendary Fuchs wheel.

This is not the only Porsche Design watch to pay respects to the original Chronograph I. The Chronograph 1 – All-Black Numbered Edition is expected to be available for delivery in September. But we are getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s focus on the 75 Years Porsche Edition.

Watch Specifications

The watch is powered by the COSC-certified mechanical Porsche Design caliber WERK 01.140 with day-date function. There is a black titanium carbide coated case and glass bead blasted sapphire crystal. The case back displays the famous Fuchs rotor along with the historical Porsche crest. It also is engraved with the logo 75 years of Porsche and individual limited-edition number.

The watch comes with a textile/leather strap with light blue stitching and a woven red stripe in the middle. This color scheme ties into the logo used to mark the 75-year anniversary of the company. If that is too flashy for you, you can swap it for a simple black leather strap with black stitching. The watch is made in the Porsche watch factory in Solothurn, Switzerland.

Porsche Design Watches

Porsche Design is no stranger to watches. Even though today they produce everything from sunglasses to ballpoint pens. Porsche Design began with watches, and it remains as one of their core products. Most of the watches they sell today commemorate a special model or anniversary. There is this Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition of course.

But there have been watches for the 911 Dakar, 911 Sport Classic, Cayman GT4 RS, 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design and so on. So, if you are a serious watch collector, Porsche Design offers enough timepieces to keep you busy for a long time. And there is no sign of them slowing down.

But if you want this latest example, we suggest you place your order soon. Any limited-edition Porsche item, either a car or a watch, typically sells out extremely quickly.
