Porsche 992 GT3 from Super Bowl Ad Recreated in High Resolution

Porsche gave us an early look at the 992 GT3 rear, our artist provides a look at the whole car.

Prior to the introduction of their Super Bowl commercial titled “The Heist”, Porsche told fans via the media to look for a surprise and that surprise was our first look at the 992 911 GT3. At the 44-second mark in the video above from the automaker’s official YouTube channel, you can see the blue 911 perched in an elevated display spot at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Based on the big rear wing and the familiar center-lug, racing-style wheels, we know that this is the next generation of the 911 GT3.

The commercial only gives us a quick glimpse of the track-ready 992, so we had our skilled artist use that shot from the Super Bowl spot to create a better look at the next 911 GT3. This includes a cleaner look at the back end, along with a unique front end that our designer imagined from scratch.

992 GT3 Rear View

Out back, our 992 Porsche 911 GT3 has a handful of unique cues, some of which come from the Super Bowl ad and some which come from the spy shots floating around the internet.

The most significant aspects of the Porsche 992 GT3, each of which helped reveal it in the Super Bowl ad, are the large rear wing and the center-lock wheels. That wing perched high on the thin pedestals hover over molded, fixed spoiler on the body along with two air intake ducts that are mounted at the base of the rear window.

Along the bottom, the Porsche 992 GT3 has unique sculpting on the sides, an integrated diffuser and dual exhaust outlets sticking out of the center of the lower diffuser. Every aspect is ideal for a track-focused streetcar, combining a great look with supreme aerodynamics.

Of course, from this rear corner view, we also get a good look at the center-lock wheels. The single lug nut design was initially introduced for motorsports, but it made its way to road cars, thanks in part to the folks at Porsche. These center-lock wheels have become a familiar component of the GT3 package, following suit of the GT3 Porsche endurance race cars.

Extreme Aero Up Front

Up front, our Porsche 911 992 GT3 has a unique front fascia that focuses on channeling the air hitting the front end. The basic 992 front fascia has a large opening that extends from side to side. Our GT3 has a series of upright dividers that direct the air in specific directions. The outer vents would send cooling air to the brakes while the large, central splitter would send the air going under the car in a specific direction.

There is also a chin spoiler that runs along the bottom of the front fascia, furthering the effort to tune the airflow moving across, over and under the front end of the 992 GT3. The production front end may have a different air management system, but in any case, we can expect the GT3 package to have some unique aero effects up front. Test cars captured in spy shots just had a big, central opening in a front fascia that appeared to be pieced together.

This front shot also provides a look at the big rear wing and the center-lock wheels, along with the overall look of the Porsche 992 911.

The 992 GT3 is expected to arrive later this year. When it does, we expect to see a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter Boxer flat-six under the rear hatch. It is expected to send around 550 horsepower towards the rear wheels by means of a dual-clutch gearbox, but there may also be a manual transmission option as well.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
