964 Carrera RS in Rubystone Red is Absolute Perfection
Up for Auction on Bring A Trailer, this Rubystone Red 964 Carrera RS is sure to bring a beyond-healthy hammer price.
Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way early: this car is pink. No amount of calling it red as Porsche did from the factory can change that. It’s pink, and it’s glorious. It’s not often these days that you see an opportunity to purchase a 964 Carrera RS. Furthermore, the opportunity to buy one in such a unique color and spec is an even scarcer occurrence. Of course, that does mean that the bids this car will bring in will be hefty. If you’re in the market, though, this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.
This 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera RS is currently up for grabs on the iconic automotive auction website Bring A Trailer. At the time of writing, it has 8 days left in the auction and has already amassed bids totaling $180,000. Just a few years ago, we saw a low-mileage Carrera RS fail to meet its reserve at a whopping $350,000. Though this one isn’t quite as low mileage with around 68,000 miles (read as 110,000 kilometers), the spec alone should help it reach an outstanding sale price.
What Makes the 964 Carrera RS Special?
In case you’re unaware, the Carrera RS is the pinnacle ultralight, high-performance variant of the 911 from various eras. In this case, the 964 era. It has a seam-welded body shell, aluminum front trunk lid, and even thinner side and rear windows to shave weight. Additionally, it lacks frills and creature comforts like airbags, air conditioning, carpet, and even sound deadening. It does, however, have Recaro bucket seats and a welded roll cage. In this example, the roll cage is paint-matched to the exterior, and the seat inserts are Rubystone Red, Aubergine, and Grey Violet. Again, no need to mince words, here. They’re pink and purple, and it rules.
The Carrera RS also came with a lightened flywheel to keep its 3.6-liter flat-six happily moving throughout the rev range. With 260 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque pumping through a manual transaxle to the rear wheels, this 2,700-pound beauty is a driving enthusiast’s dream come true. The auction listing reports that this car was supposedly used as a race car in the early 2000s. However, in 2021, it underwent a full windows-out respray of its glorious “red” paint. Additionally, the listing states that the engine was rebuilt in 2025.
Don’t Let This One Slip Away
If you’ve got the means to purchase a 964 Carrera RS and lack the fragile masculinity that would turn you off to driving this phenomenal car, you’re not going to want to miss this opportunity. Hagerty values a good condition example of a 1992 Carrera RS at $287,000. We wouldn’t be surprised to see its unique presence drive it above that by quite a bit, though. We’re excited to see how this auction plays out and just know the new owner is going to love it!
