Porsche 959 & 911 Turbo S Do 200-MPH Sprints on Autobahn

Porsche 959 is nothing short of automotive royalty. Would the king, however, keep its crown on today’s autobahn?

9WERKS TV had a unique and wonderful opportunity in repatriating a devilishly composed looking Porsche 959. The outfit left rain soaked-England to pick up the widebody supercar from Zuffenhausen in Germany. As if the intended 959 wasn’t enough, the 9WERKS team chose a 992 model 911 Turbo S to drive across the channel and collect the classic. The journey involves a beautiful drive across multiple countries in a world class Porsche. There was, however, and issue for the crew. The European Union and the United Kingdom weren’t quite on the same pandemic page, and the threat of mandatory quarantine was looming.

The mandates meant that 9WERKS TV couldn’t treat the journey as a joyride, rather a purposeful sprint through Germany. The 911 and 959 look right at home on the ribbons of autobahn. Although the cars are separated by generations, the Porsches have some similarities. Both cars are twin turbocharged, all wheel drive monsters crafted from lightweight materials. In fact, 9WERKS TV pointed out that the 959’s wing mirrors will sag the weight saving bodywork over time. Additionally, the 959’s intelligent AWD system and 450 horsepower powerplant made the car the fastest car in the world at the time of release.

Despite the performance credentials of the 959, the newer 911 produces 200 horsepower more than the old 959. The difference in horsepower didn’t stop the the 959 from keeping up with the much newer 911, though. Both cars charged home on Germany’s famous autobahns at speeds near 200 MPH, and looked timeless doing it.
