A gorgeous Porsche 987 Cayman S failed to sell at a recent PCARMARKET auction. California-based Vali Motorsports (VMS) is responsible for this one-off Safari-style rally build

Like most of our avid readers here at Rennlist, we are big fans of the Porsche 953. The car was specially built for the 1984 Paris Dakar rally and has inspired many Safari builds over the year. We have discussed many Safari models in the past few months as they have made a significant comeback. Clearly, enthusiasts have a soft corner for the high-riding versions of the Porsche 911. More recently, A unique Safari build failed to sell at a PCARMARKET auction. The car we have here is a 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S based Safari build.

This 987 Cayman S rally custom is a single-owner car. Needless to say, this sports car underwent a drastic transformation. Californian outfit Vali Motorsports (VMS) is responsible for this one-off Safari-style rally build. The car was up for sale with just 72,000 miles on the odometer. We find Carrera GT-style racing seats and a custom roll cage inside the cabin.

The final bid for the car closed at $45,500. It is pretty surprising that this car failed to sell, considering the popularity of safari models and the tasteful modifications that this example sports. Vali Motorsports rebuilt the powerplant, which hooks up to a six-speed manual gearbox. The car itself gets a slew of upgrades, including a deep sump oil pan, IMS bearing, and a GT3 muffler.

The engine could churn out 295 HP of maximum power in its factory tune and around 185 lb-ft of peak torque. The listing does not mention if Vali Motorsports was able to increase the overall power output of the engine. The manual gearbox sends power to the rear wheels and gets a new pressure plate clutch and a Guard limited-slip differential.

The car now rides on a suspension setup that uses both Tarett and Bilstein components, and custom sway bar drop links and springs. This 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S rally custom rolls on a set of 16-inch Braid rally wheels, and BFGoodrich tires envelop up the rims. The car was available with a clean California title.
