1983 Porsche 911SC: Built to Honor a Rally Champion

If you can’t get your hands on a real rally car, why not build your own? Or, in the case of this Porsche 911SC, just buy it!

Porsche hasn’t really bothered with having its own factory rally team in some time. So, fans longing for a rally Porsche have to get creative, like the builder of this incredible 1983 Porsche 911SC that we spotted at The Collector Car Network. This hardcore enthusiast went so far as to replicate past efforts in Porsche rally history. In this case, the winner of the 2011 European Rally Championship.

And since the car has been faithfully built to FIA Group 4 specifications, it’s still very much streetable. The body is largely stock, save for the obvious fiberglass flares and front bumper. Even the interior retains much of its factory spec, including power windows and door panels. But that’s pretty much where the line between street stock and factory racer begins to blur.

The standard 3.0-liter flat six was rebuilt with upgraded pistons, heads, valves, and a race tune. The result is a bump of roughly 40 horsepower over stock.

The transmission was fortified to handle that extra juice with fresh bearings, flywheel, pressure plate, and more. A transmission cooler keeps things in check. And the driver executes perfect heel-and-toe shifting courtesy of a modified brake pedal position.

Of course, the meat of a build like this Porsche 911SC comes from the suspension. And this rally-spec car has everything from Bilstein shocks to adjustable anti-roll bars and ventilated/cross drilled brakes to keep it in check.

Plus, does it get any better than a set of gold BBS wheels, measuring in at 15×8 inches up front and 15×10 in the rear? Whether you plan on running some vintage races or just driving this thing on the street, we can’t think of a cooler car to do it in.
