1969 Porsche 912: Petersen’s Parking Lot Porsche
L.A.’s Petersen Automotive Museum is currently hosting the stellar ‘Porsche Effect’ exhibit, but not all the hottest rides are inside the museum.Â
For fans of Porsche and automotive history in general, few places delight the senses like the Petersen Museum. It’s there that you’ll find hundreds of rare, famous, and downright stunning machines that rotate in and out regularly. We’re obviously huge fans of this incredible collection, and probably spend way too much time perusing it. But those efforts paid off recently when we spotted this interesting Porsche 912 on display.
The cool think about this particular Porsche 912 is that it wasn’t located within the famous halls of the Petersen. Rather, it was sitting out in the parking garage, ready to greet visitors in a rather unique way. It’s the kind of thing that you just don’t see at any other automotive museum. And it’s also just another nice touch that we’ve come to expect from the masterminds at the Petersen.
The Porsche 912 never really received the love bestowed upon its brother, the 911. Mostly because it was originally designed as a low-cost alternative to the flat-six powered legend. But we certainly aren’t among those that sleep on this incredible ride. Stuffing the 356’s flat-four in a 911 obviously didn’t make it a barn burner. But it did give the car incredible balance and amazing road-holding capability.
Porsche has played a massive role in the museum’s recent displays, of course. The largest of which, known as “The Porsche Effect,” has been a smashing success. So much so that the massive celebration of the iconic brand has been extended and is now running until April 21, 2019. So if you haven’t had a chance to head over to Los Angeles and check it out, now you’ve got more time to do so!
