Interesting reviews. I wonder how the 991 RS will be. Will it improve over the 997.2 or is it just more of the same with more added electronics and even less feel, increased track, rubber and aero. Faster around the track for sure but I wonder if it will have a more options for suspension so it will be a better street car as well as being a fast circuit car.
The 3.6 997 is the best looking RS to date. Weird to hear they can't get the setup right, with the added front aero and front track increased maybe need to put some smaller tires in the back.

Endless ink on the 991RS but it is rumoured to show up in Paris Oct 4. Typically there is only a modest increase in power, but a lot of work on lightness and aerodynamics. I have a preliminary spec with the dealer based on the GT3 plus some other stuff I am aware of, and will lock it down once we get the spec.

No I don't completely. I think the 7.2 is a better track car and is also much more stable at very high speeds due to a lot more downforce.. In normal road use at close to legal speeds here there is nothing to choose between the 7.1 and the 7.2
His point about the Michelin SuperSports in very wet conditions is bang on and I moved my 7.1 to Supersports years ago. The Cups are great as dry track tires, better than the Supersports.
Most of the owners I know in Europe very much rate the 996RS as a phenomenal track car (many prefer it to the 997) and a compromised road car, so thats consistent. However, with these cars its really a matter of the car that suits you best. They are all compromised as general purpose daily drivers, but thats not why you buy them...
Evidently the 991RS will be very different, probably announced shortly, and will once again divide opinion. Once I have had it for a while I will report back, but that is next year...

Great post and interesting reviews. Track VS road cars in particular. I might have been smarter to keep that Boxster and buy a truck, trailer and a Radical.
A few years ago a guy delivered my Boxster after service and said "he forgot how good these cars drive" He has a 996 fully tracked prepped with Cup suspension/brakes etc. That might say it all.
Looking forward to hearing about the 991 RS. I bet it'll be very interesting.
Guessing it's one or the other.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...Boxster is the nicest driving, most fluid, intuitive and enjoyable sports car EVER made.

Enjoyed watching that, Thanks for sharing Ronan. Pretty useless review testing those cars on a rainy day(typical for a UK review), the 997.2RS is one of the best track cars in the world. It looks like to me they changed the aero so much on that 997.1 RS that its so far from how Porsche setup that car from the factory it's giving them issues. That 996RS is so delicious, my favorite colour scheme out of the bunch.

I want a 996 RS but it will be a while till the 15 year import date shows up. Problem id that they are much, much rarer beasts than the 997 RS and when they are eligible for import the prices may be stratospheric.

Only available in Automatic......
997 GT2RS will still have a faster lap time around the Ring, IMHO, 991 GT2RS, if and when it arrives will rock the time charts.....

Do cars with a race vin have the same 15 year restriction and would they be able to be put licensed on the street after that? or does it only apply only to regular vin cars. Wondering because I'd love to have a 996 Cup, last of the manual cup cars and of which is very similar the RS but much more affordable and would only do it if I could also drive it on the street, not talking a daily driver just to get to special occasions. The 996 RS will be very hard to get and people that have them now won't be to willing to get rid of them for reasonable prices. Where as the old cup cars can be had for dirt cheap now a days.

Not sure of the rules for race cars, but if its not street legal there, v unlikely it would be here. Would be a challenge to insure too I would think. Worth checking though as I have never enquired about a cup car. For me, I would only go for the RS with the clubsport package.

Porsche is going to use the 991 Turbo S body for the RS. Wider, lighter, more grip, slightly more hp, faster shifting pdk, more aero, probably louder exhaust.
