interesting tire talk/comparison. I would summarize that the R7's are excellent, but for a DE there are lower cost options that may be a little slower, but since there's no "winner" in DE, who cares. I'm not surprised by the tires that have been suggest in comparison, but there's one that I did not see brought up. Does anyone have experience with federal 595 rss's? I think Rick was looking for 295's. they don't come in that size, but they do come in 285's which is closer than the 275's the Nt-01's come in. I've not used the Federal's but some people praise them and I really can't believe how cheap they are ($136 each) (https://www.onlinetires.com/products...acing+97w.html). So I'm all ears for anyone who's got experience with them as compared to Nt-01's or R7's, etc.

Walking thru the paddock at the Road America Club Race this past weekend, only saw two cars on Hankooks, and more than I could count on R7's.

Availability issues, unaware of C51s, or do most believe that the R7s are faster?

i dont agree with that at all. again, the FASTEST guys in the country are running the A6s and A7s at 30psi hot. these are cars that weigh 3000 to 3450lbs. the team that runs a 3000lb car vs a 3400lb car doesnt really change the difference between cars for races or qualifying.
This kine of thinking is similar to thinking that the tire pressure will go up by adding weight to the car with smame starting pressures. sure, it does go up, but measurably. same think with setting pressures with a heavy vs light car . the tire pressure keeps the optimum tire structure, the grip forces laterally and longitudinally, dont change much with a 10% heavier car at the same pressures.

we went over this before in an earlier thread, but generally the recommended range for hoosiers and other DOT R tires, is 32-36. what i have found with the fastest guys , and guys that want long life and best performance, is to be in the 30-32psi range . Having run most of the major brands and sizes for 20 years, i can say this works best. In fact, when ever the pressures get in the 35-6 range and higher, the tires feel greasy and tire temps across the tire are hotter on the centers. (classic signs to lower pressure)
