WHY BUY HANKOOKS?
Hoosiers recommends 4 PSI increase of left rear at Cali Speedway. Hanks? Wouldn't touch them as I have indicated before...I am sticking with Nitto NT-01 tires, 30% less than Hoosiers (Maybe Hankooks too for that matter...not certain, but I always get at least 20 good, no compromises on handling, heat cycles froM NT-01 tires. In 18" NT-01 rears come in 275, 305 and 315. Can't stuff a 305 into the wheel well, so I get by very nicely on the 275s.

In cases where the size cannot be changed (FROM A 285/30.18), it is advisable to increase air pressure to insure a minimum of 40 psi (cold) for unbanked tracks, and 44 psi (cold) for banked courses.

back to back for me b/w nt01 and c51 z214s was ~2.5 seconds at TWS. When I purchased them last, they were cheaper than nt01s too, unless you catch discount tires semi annual sale on the nt01s.

I used a set of fairly new NT01s 245/305 and a set of C51 Z214s 245/275 that had 25 heat cycles on them back to back, 2 sessions each. The well used z214s were about 1-1.5s faster but felt much much better. Posted the NT01s on RL classifieds and had them sold before I got home that day.

Let's not forget the Z 214 is a DOT 40 rated tire, just like the Hoosiers. The Nittos are DOT 100 rated tires. They are never going to be as quick as a 40 rated tire..unless you are a pro-driver.

"Hoosiers recommends 4 PSI increase of left rear at Cali Speedway. That would be RIGHT REAR
The track is run counterclockwise, so the load is on the right rear. This is a scary track...but I seem to go back at least 1X per year. Only one incident to date...blew a right rear Toyo 710 coming out of turn 2 at 125mph ish...did three 360 snap spins and didn't hit anything. Disintegrating tire ate the rear fender liner and broke the 993RS side skirt.
Lucky to walk away unscathed.

Thanks for the above replies. Would you need to increase the right rear AND front tires by 4-5 psi and if so, how much would that affect the handling on the infield portion of the track? Also, how critical is decreasing the camber to 2.0 or less if you make the pressure adjustments? I recently used the Z214s at Willow Springs with the lower camber settings and had DRAMATIC outside tire wear on the left front and to lesser extent left rear in 3 short sessions( so bad that my race shop contacted Hankook to see if this was a tire defect). In my class I can always use the NT01s ( and then take 130+pounds off my car weight somehow)but I doubt that would yield comparable lap times to Z214s or R7s.

I would think that someone going from an R7 to a NT01 would be very disappointed I love the NT01 as a DE tire, but it does not have the grip the Hoosiers have.
BFG R1 is a very nice tire. They won't have the grip of a sticker Hoosier, but they are good to race out to 15HC's, and usable after that. I ran them for quite a few years on my 996. Never ever got to the cord. Just tossed them after they were cycled out.

My track car is a Cayman R (not the 993 turbo in the avatar) with 18 inch wheels and there are not many tires that have the correct front/rear diameter ratios to keep the ABS happy. It pretty much comes down to R7s, Z214s, NT01s and Toyo R888s. In my experience, there isn't a significant difference between NT01s and R888s and they are a few seconds slower than R7s and Z214s. I usually use R7s but due to the warnings from Hoosier about banked tracks, I was interested in substituting the Z214s but it sounds like the issues are the same. Going with the Nittos or Toyos( even though the class rules would allow me to take weight off my car to offset the difference in grip compared to the Hoosiers and Hankooks ) would be a big difference in lap time. However, it looks like those are the only options.
