The driver's resume looks more legit than most.

His resume(given in the link above) is impressive and unfortunately he left behind a wife and two kids.
All of us here are car enthusiasts and something like this really hits home how dangerous our hobby can be even for those of us with experience...be safe out there fellow RLers.

not more than 45mph...
I was supposed to be at that charity event; didn't make it.
Friends who were there and witnessed everything are adament that
the speed at time of incident wasn't more than 45mph (though it might have been a 15mph zone)
no drugs, no alcohol involved
Paul and Roger (driver) were both very experienced drivers
By all accounts, both Paul and Roger were standup guys.
RIP

Wanted to stop by & see if it was anyone I knew from RL. Cars don't hit trees & split apart at 45 MPH. What looked like to me - found a photo with what looked like a tree in the background. Not that it matters -2 guys aren't going home tonight. RIP
Be safe my friends.

I do not dispute the fact that these were both stand up guys and I wish nothing but the best for their families in dealing with their loss.
However, there is NO WAY the damage to that CGT was caused at a speed of 45 MPH. My guess is that the speeds involved were in the triple digits...

Yes, our hobby is dangerous, but Roger took every precaution on track to minimize his risk...however, off track, on the street, our hobby transitions to public domain...and in the public domain, anything can happen unpredictably...unfortunately, it ended up in 2 deaths leaving their children fatherless...RIP Paul & Roger...and prayers to their loved ones...

That's what a car looks like after it explodes and burns...
Hi,
I'm not going to debate the speed here - I wasn't there. Good friends who know high speeds and performance driving - one was a national champion in class and holds a few track records for non-pro - were there and were adament it was no more than 45mph.
I WILL state that conclusions about speed based on the pictures AFTER the car exploded and burned can be misguided, at best.
I've seen cars that looked as bad, or worse, that didn't hit anything but caught fire and burned to an empty charred shell. And I'm talking from seeing one of these examples IN PERSON, as it happened. And that's without exploding, as most eyewitnesses agreed happened in this incident. The way the CGT looks in internet pictures (unless you've seen something I haven't) does not conclude triple digit speeds.
But this debate is pointless (other than impugning the social responsibility of the deceased - non-performance-car-enthusiasts have tried to imply that somehow, they brought it on themselves with reckless socially irresponsible behaviour. I have such strong, conflicted feelings about this mindset that I will comment no more on the subject... )
My only thoughts now are with the deceased and their families and friends.
Condolences and RIP.
