Cayman Maintenance Adventure

It is an immutable fact in most modern cars (clearly all German ones) that you actually do need the OEM computers to control the ECM/ECUs when you do maintenance. SDS for MB. Porsche has... something else. Even on more "analog" cars from the mid 2000s. If you are talking about something post 2010, its just required.

Good story. Nice writing style.
$1700/month lease I'm told. And has to phone home to The Mothership on teh Interwebs frequently or it bricks.
And yes, at least for the 981 and 991 the PWIS is needed for a lot of stuff. I have the 981 shop manuals (that make our beloved WSM look like a freekin' masterpiece.)

So what you are saying is that it's almost 100% *not* field serviceable.

Good stuff, glad you were able to sort it all out. Its amazing sometimes the chain of events that can happen from just the little things. I could relate to your wife's reactions, especially from when my wife drove our '91 S4 as her daily driver for 4 yrs. I forwarded both articles to a friend with a Cayman who does most of his own maintenance.

The info is out there
I enjoyed the blog if for no other reason than that the apprehension of the unknown and fear of messing something up is well portrayed.
Everything that is needed to learn how to change plugs, serpentine belt, filters, battery changes, brake bleeding, etc is out on the Internet.
Much of it is on forums including Renntech and PCA's own model specific Boxster and Cayman forums. Many things can be found on YouTube. Pelican Parts has great tutorials.
You are to be congratulated in that your troubleshooting steps were methodical and you persevered until you found the issue.
For me enjoyment of the car includes these successful maintenance tasks.
