Anyone Update their PCM 3.1 Maps?
I'm wondering if it's worth it to update the maps on my 2012 Cayenne S .... I see Suncoast is selling "the latest 2016 update" on sale for $269.95 ( http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU958PCMU.html ). I recently installed the updated maps on my 2010 C4S Cab (which has PCM 3.0), and it was a pretty good update to account for the intervening 6 years of revised roadways in and around the Chicagoland area (thanks to Comrade Obama for spending my tax $$ on new roads ).
The map update requires a dealer install, so tack on at least a $185 Stealership charge for this, but I'm wondering if there is any additional functionality in this latest update in addition to revised maps .... any thoughts on this ?

Local dealer near me said 6-8 hours labor for installation. i started laughing and left. Waze is 100x better than the factory nav and also lets you know where the police are hiding.

Summits - They really quoted you 6-8 hours of "installation" with a straight face? Not only is that patently untrue, it's borderline criminal! As I recall from my 997.2 update, all they do is install the disc, provide a code to unlock the update, and leave it plugged in until it's done. I had 2 P Dealers here in the Chicago 'burbs quote me roughly the same for installing the update that I bought from Suncoast - 1 hour/$185. Sadly, some Stealerships will try to soak (less-informed) folks for simple stuff like this

I got quoted a ripoff $900 for the NAV update! How much time does it take to load the maps and hit run on the PIWIS?

I work in the software/tech field and this issue really hits a nerve with me.
Paying that much money for a map library upgrade is pure robbery. Porsche and the dealers have colluded to bend us over. Maybe if they spent more time on the actual software than locking it down and figuring out how to fleece us on updates/upgrades it might come close to holding a candle to what free smartphone apps could do 5 years ago! LOL

Sure did. Porsche Tysons Corner. I said they just put a CD in and unlock the update right? "Yes but there are multiple steps to unlocking and the time to upload requires the tech to go step by step", or some nonsense like that. "would you like a espresso and a complimentary car wash while it is here?" No- I will spread the news to the forum. Same dealership that wanted $2,400 IIRC for a major service with me supplying parts (which I did at a Indy race shop for $700). Same dealership that when I first started talking to them about the GTS, stating the only option I really wanted that I didn't get was PDCC..."let me check to see if we can install that for you" If anyone doesn't know Tysons Corner, it is in one of the richest areas of the country and they can apparently charge whatever they wish... and the people who don't do research pony up.

They never will if we as consumers keep foolishly paying them to stick one up our collective tailpipes, haha. I can't believe more people are not up in arms about this horsebaggery.
