You do realize that this is all YOUR fault, right?

These cars are still too new, once they hit the less than 10,000 level, which is starting soon, I think more and more will pick them up. I noticed the last 3 years crowd here has changed, as the lower barrier of entry has allowed more older problem cars to show up. I almost wish there was a 955/957 and a 958+ board, things have changed enough.
I've noticed that the level of DIY'ers is a lot lower than over in the 928 forum (not a criticism, just an observation).
When someone who doesn't turn wrenches regularly sees what's involved, it's a bit intimidating.
And when they see the $3500 quote from a dealer for both jobs, it's more than "just a bit" intimidating.
Well, the "your fault" part is that I could find and afford to buy this. I know perfectly well that it was a $93k car new (I got the window sticker in the records too ), but the idea that I could get it for well under 20 was not something I was aware of.
And I DON"T have a problem.
I can stop ANY TIME I want to.

There have been a couple "I got a great deal on a leftover 14" threads that I have a hard time wrapping my head around.
Those guys got more off in discount than I paid for my whole car.
And they paid more for their car than I paid for my house.
But it's all good. There's a lot of info that translates across the model years, and we all have the same interest, right? (not gonna suggest we sing "Kumbaya" though )
And, as I mentioned in my OP, the seller & I use the same bank, so doing the money was easy. It's BMO Harris. They are having some sort of promo, and had a bunch of keychains out. The seller isn't on here and isn't super "into" these, so he didn't understand why I reacted the way I did when I saw them...

Just to be clear, I am not trying to sound classist or anything. Just when you have a car that is 2 years old, conversations change vs a 15 year old car For now, I have a 2009 and most of the conversations for the 2011+ cars don't interest me because the platform is different enough. Just like I am sure the 993 guys could care less about the latest 911 being discussed in detail in their board.
I hear what you are saying. The guys buying new ones are so far from me (from a socio-economic POV) that it's ridiculous.

Yes, there are a lot of differences in the model years, and the 'trials and tribulations' of ownership change a lot for an older car vs a newer one.

I have a 951, a 928, and a 955. (I'm probably one of the guys who pushed the P!g on the 928 forum.) If you're at all comfortable wrenching on your 928, the 955 is laughably easy. Everything is modular, half the parts are shared with the Touareg, take-offs are plentiful.
The only thing, as you've noticed already, is that there aren't as many DIYers here, or the depth of knowledge that there is on the 928 forum. Happily, that's going to start changing as these things drop below $10k.
Enjoy your Cayenne!

Seems I'm totally opposite of WI Joe, I bought my Cayenne now starting to get the 928 fever. LOL. After reading over on the 928 forum, I've thought about finding a roller and a pull out 4.8 more than a few times since picking up my GTS. Although right now I have a 4 digit HP turbo big block project truck that completely obliterated the transmission and stock 2pc driveshaft as soon as I put it together. So that's eating all the time and money I can spare at this point.

At any rate, hope you enjoy your "new" ride Joe, seems like this community is pretty inclusive no matter if you have a brand new Cayenne or one that's 12 years old. Unless its a V6, then no one likes you guys. (Just kidding! )

6-speed has a general Cayenne forum, 955/956 forum and a 958 forum, plus a turbo performance forum. That may be splitting it too many ways - but there isn't a lot in common between the first generation and the second. With the third on the way I'm hoping the 958 DIY and knowledge starts growing as more of us poverty level enthusiasts buy them.

Holy thread resurrection.
It was a year ago that I got my CTT. About 5400 miles.
Coolant pipes & Ts (starter at same time), Jimi fix on cardan shaft, hatch struts, some paint work and 6 tires (yes, 2 snows and all 4 summers).
Love it as much today as I did back then.
And my 928 is an 85 Euro "S2", but I've come to the conclusion that it won't beat the CTT up to 90. Close, but not quite as fast.
I did 4500 miles to Oakland CA and back 2 years ago in the 928 (May 14), and took 3 other guys to Chicago and back in the CTT. Both are very nice on roadtrips.
