Would one Trade their GT4 for a 997.2 GT3??
Just curious to hear people's opinions. Let's just figure the 2011 is in great condition with low mileage. What would be pros and cons?? How would one value($$$)what the GT3 is really worth in this market. Sure, could be less in 6 weeks but may be not depending on the 991.2 details and pricing.
Thoughts??

^^Thanks - never and easy decision. I think it would be shrewd for me to wait to see the details on the 991.2 GT3. Although- that may be a year away before ownership so flogging around a 997 would not be so bad for a year. May get hurt at trade-in but who cares. I am an engine guy who loves rawness. May be time to scratch that itch. Good decisions to have
P.S.- I do this to myself every winter when I get bored. At least i can admit I have issues

If you care about engine rawness, drive the Mezger for a year and have fun. The 9A1 in the GT4 is a nice engine for sure, but it's one of the weak points of the GT4 for me, relatively speaking, of course.

If it is your daily, don't. If it is your track car, probably not, warranty and all. But if it is just your weekend car, yes. The 7.2 GT3 feels way more special.
As for 991.2 GT3, even with a manual, doubt it will drive/feel anything like a 997 GT3. If anything, it will probably be more like GT4.
Of course, the best is, as mooty says, both. Porsche really means it when they say "there is no substitute".

Accel Junky recently traded his GT4 for a 997.2 GT3. Perhaps he could provide some insight.
I've driven a handful of 997 GT3's and they are all special. I personally wouldn't let my GT4 go for one but that's just me. The engine and transmission are extraordinary but the engine placement, interior and exterior styling are getting dated.

I went from a 997.2 GT3 to the GT4. They way I describe them is that the GT4 is a "tamer" version of the GT3 in every way... clutch weight, shifter notchiness, sound, acceleration, etc. The GT4 is more refined in interior design and newer tech.
I love them both and honestly would be equally happy with either.

go for it. 997 GT3 is way more special and engaging.
No new GT car will feel like 996/997 GT3!

I'm having this same thought experiment. I've always wanted a 997.x GT3. I'm interested in opinions. And I intend to track.
I love the GT4 but every time I see a GT3 I get that grass is greener feeling.
I'm also eyeballing 991.1 GT3s..

If you have/had a 997 GT3, it's slightly easier to say "I'll add it to the stable" compared to "I have a GT4, I'm going to get a 997 GT3 now". I appreciate it for what it is, that engine wale is amazing and the torque...but I think had the GT4 had more power it would make the 997 a bit more of less of an options.
GT4 is more refined and clutch, lighter. Taking the GT3 out and then jumping back into my GT4, I thought I was going to punch a hole through the floor when I pushed the clutch in.

While waiting for my GT4 to be delivered my local dealer let take out a 2010 GT3 , after driving the owners gt4.
It was fun, and the engine felt a bit stronger. But like others states, the GT4 just felt tighter. Whether that's because it was a new car vs a used, or the mid engine vs the rear, I don't know. I do know the cockpit felt tighter and the seats alone made me feel like a piece of the car rather than just in a car (gt4 had lwb).
