Tailgate and Tailgate Glass Won't Open
Help,
All of a sudden the tailgate will not open using the tailgate release latch and neither will the rear glass open on the release switch.
I have managed to open the tailgate manually and it is locking correctly.
I checked the fuses and couldn;t see anything obvious - any ideas ??

fuse on the right side of the dash board. number 16 or 17 its listed as term 30 motors in the owners manual.
can be blown if you have a electical pull down hatch and there was something in the way. Or by a gas door acuator going bad.
Gas door acuator is really easy to chnage if you dont have a cd changer

Thanks for coming back - Checked the fuses and both are OK - I did also check 30 and that was OK.
If I could get the tailgate trim off that would allow me to check the tailgate release - However this seems pretty well attached and I donl't want to damage this without knowing how best to get it off. What is clear is that when I press the release switch the tailgate does release slightly, but the solenoid that actuates the catch release does not move at all.

For both the acuators to go bad is 1 in a 1000 odds, check all the fuses on the right side of the dash for power on both sides. Your in the uk it may be backwards check the fuses on the left side too. I have seen that complaint 30+ times alwasy been a blown fuse

Brad,
He describes a sound (click?) when he hits the button and it opens a bit....perhaps it is a mechanical problem rather than electrical?

Tailgate won't open
It is not so much a click, but more the motor that pulls the tailgate in to close firmly when you shut it does release the tailgate partially when you push the tailgate release catch, the problem is that the solenoid that actuates the release cable itself does not trigger at all and for some other reason neither does the tailgate glass release either.
In addition and I am not sure it is connected, but when you arm the car through the key fob, the indicator lights flash four times - I had begun to think that perhaps this might indicate an elctronic control unit failure ??

Solution found
Despite the fact I thought I had checked all fuses, a further check proved to be key. One fuse had gone - Now replaced and all working well again.

Nice to see you becoming familiar with the features of the Cayenne.
Next week, we will cover the rear window wiper...

So the other day I drove home from work went to open tailgate and it wouldn't open no noise or anything! Same with the glass hatch! Locked and unlocked car with fob and nothing still. I used the lock and unlock on the drivers side door and still wouldn't open. So then I opened rear passenger to get access to my stuff in back and when I tried tailgate one last time it opened! This gas happened several times now and I only have this problem after I drive somewhere and I have to open and close one of the rear passenger door to get the tailgate to work! What on earth is happening?
Also once I've managed to get the tailgate to open once it functions fine etc its only when I drive and then go to open it I get the problem!
I hope someone can help! This pig is starting to get on my nerves now! Something new happens every week!
